Should I switch from 5W-30 Mobil 1, to 5W-20 in my 06 GLS?

btw, I never get the amazing fuel economy people post on this site.

What is better a coolant flush done at the dealer or using Prestone Super Radiator Cleaner?

What could I ask my dealership to make sure I get a tranny flush that takes most of the fluid out? I had a tranny flush done on a different GLS and I believe it said they only added 8 or 9 quarters of SP-III. That didn't seem like enough fluid.

Thank you

Put in the oil that the owners manual says.

Check your tire pressures.

You won't need some super amazing radiator cleaner on an '06. Drain an fill is all you'll really need.

If they only used that much fluid, then they didn't do a flush, just a drain and fill. Tell them you want an actual flush.

An actual trans flush on an XD automatic trans is about 10-11 quarts.

It just seems like there is no solid information over the safety of 5W-20; do you think 5w-20 is too thin and will not protect the engine as well as 5w-30?

What does your owners manual say?

I got the impression elsewhere, that, despite what an OEM says, 5W-20 isn't as safe for the engine as 5W-30

anyone have any thoughts on the matter

If the owners manual says you can use it, then go ahead and use it.

5w20 is what is recommended for some hyundai's, and despite the thought of the thinness of the oil, it is better to have the thinner oil (although not required) due to the tighter tolerances and the CVVT system.

My 07 model has a recommended 5w20, but 5w30 and 10w30 oil is also OK according to the manual.

The CVVT system is run by the oil pressure and the passage to the solenoid is about the size of a pencil lead, and thicker oil can't flow through that so easily. I noticed on my particular car (the HD) the valvetrain is quieter with the thinner oil.

I do an oil change every six months. Mobil 1 with an M-104.

I'm going to switch to 5W-20 Extended Performance.

I'm wondering if I should use an OEM filter or the M-104 again. While on the one hand, the M-104 as a test run has been successful.

My question is, do you think the OEM filter is really good for 6 months of usage, at about 5500 miles driven per oil change?

I find it interesting that SuperTech and Mobil filters look similar and are made by Champion labs. 2.24 cents versus 10.99

cheers,

5500 miles in 6 months on an automatic. And you wonder why you don't get "amazing fuel economy"?

anyone else found that 5W-20 makes their engine noisy, I'm going to change the oil in about ten days
