Okay so I spent most of today in the wet/cold messing around with the sunfire.
I got the fender and hood off and started looking at the axle. after gettint the brake caliper and rotor off I Looked at the axle (which appears to be fairly new) But the hub assembly where the wheel bearings are is really loose. So I'm thinking the bearings are gone. My question is are these the press in type or should I just get a new hub assembly?

bolt in hub assembly.
I know the hub assembly bolts on. Are the bearings inside easily replaced or do I have to press them in? I think I'm gonna replace the hub and see how it works out. It's only 65 dollars and is warranted for a year. where as Just the bearings are 25 dollars and warranted for 90 days.

dude seriously, the amount of trouble you'd go through to install those bearings (because as far as I know, all wheel bearings of that style are pressed it, you just don't throw em in and slap some glue on it) you're better off just spending the extra 40 bucks and getting the whole hub. if the hub assembly was like 200 bucks, and the bearing 25, I would say, yeah, have a machine shop change out the bearing, but for 40 bucks? f-that

I got all the info I need on the swap. I just need to pick up a few new tools(sockets mostly) in the morning and I'm gonna do this tomorrow. Then it's off to the junkyard for the fender hood and headlight.
On a side note: There are absolutely no forums out there for this car that don't suckass. The only one I did find with any pertinent Information hasn't been posted on since September of 07. I did find a step by step wheel bearing replacement here
http://www.bradiscool.com/index.html But Brad is not cool and neither is his car. I LOVE EXD!

Its a super easy job; I changed both front hubs on my Malibu-boo 1999.
Pressing out the old bearings in the hubs--on the other hand is almost impossible. I tried at work with a 50 ton press and a acetylene torch.
Created a twenty pound pretzel mess. Make sure you get the updated hub bearing that has a new axel nut included. The torque spec has been drastically reduced from roughly 295 foot pounds on the OEM down to 160 with the updated self locking nut. I'm pretty sure your year is included.

It's a ONE PIECE bolt in assembly. That's it. You can't even BUY just the bearings. It's sold as a one piece unit that bolts in. Best design EVER!

the one I took off came off in Two pieces;) The hub with the lug studs came out the bearings fell to the ground and the other part is stuck in the spindle. I need to go get a punch and beat the piss out of it (carefully from the inside of the spindle) So thats where I'm at right now. Cold, wet and frustrated. Oh and on a side note the axles are in great shape the boots look almost new and there aren't any signs of a bad axle. So if I get it back together today/tonight Cypher I'll be down tomorrow.

yeah that is what the new one looks like. The old one doesn't look like that anymore. Once I got the axle splines loose the lug part just fell to ground with the bearings. I'm astounded that my buddy didn't lose the wheel on his commute to and from work.

but you don't have the ability to look at these pics to ask the experienced techs what they think would be the best way to get this effin thing unstuck. I have been cursing like a sailor for the last hour.

Large pry bar, or a metal wedge driven in with a hand sledge. Heat, i.e. torch, would be very beneficial here.

Proxy's are also restricted. Websese is a mother of a restriction. Believe me, we've been trying for 3 years to get around it to no avail.

Yeah websense sucks i had that last year but they changed it this year. I remember we used to just go on google translator and type in the website we wanted there, but eventually they caught on and blocked it. batool.info got blocked though? im suprised. Maybe try www.suppressmy.info

The Websense category "Proxy Avoidance" is filtered.
All of those are blocked. I spent an entire afternoon working with local guys to find a way around....none worked.

Got everything I needed to get back together(mechanically) I took it for a spirited driving spree. Without the hood! lol I can say how much I have missed the 5spd. I don't care for it as much as I do the XD. But there is huge difference in power. But all it all it was a productive day. I'm off to the junk yard in the morning to pick up the body parts. Oh and I got a cel light too.????? Need to get it scanned.

So what did it take to get it apart?
And yes, it will probably feel pretty strong considering it starts with almost 20hp more than the XD.

I tapped it with the hammer and a punch on the inside and It popped right out. No heat at all. I was shocked at how easy it popped out with the punch. I think it feels like a lot more power because my XD it autotragic :(
