If someone can get a chemist to check how close it is to Hyundais unethical monopoly on transmission fluid, it might be worth it.

Unethical? Try Honda, Toyota and other manufacturers that have their own fluids.
Hyundai requires ONLY SP-III fluid and nothing else. I called them when we had the Amsoil debate and mentioned I had replaced more than 1 automatic transmission with the Amsoil fluid, which is identical to Castrol, Amsoil and Royal Purple fluids. HMA said that these *universal* fluids have chemicals that destroy the clutch material because of the differing types of material that is used in the clutches on our cars vs other cars and the way our automatic transmission is designed to shift.
Whether it says it or not, multiple TSB's are stating that on all Hyundai's except the Veracruz, only the formula containing SP-III fluid can be used in our car and still have the warranty intact.

hyundai doesnt make their own fluid....somebody else makes it to spec then hyundai slaps their name on it....
just like castrol doesnt make oil....they merely add their chemicals to a normal oil...then slap their name on it.

If the dealer is out of Hyundai ATF, I wonder what they are using.

Go to a Kia dealer. Kia uses Hyundai fluid and a lot of times it's a little cheaper.

Did you try to go after Amsoil for the cost of the tranny ? I think they make a claim about paying for parts that fail because of their oil. It would be hard to prove what causes a tranny failure anyway.

Hyundai tried that as well as I did. Amsoil claimed that the fluid was correct, but Hyundai says that the other crap in the Amsoil ATF made the trans go bad due to the chemicals in the fluid.
According to HMC, the SP-III formula has to be the sole formula, not a multi-formula fluid like RP and Amsoil. When the multi-formula is used, what formulas damage the Hyundai transmission are in that fluid, which increases the changes of premature failure.
I would never put a multi-formula fluid in a car with a requirement of a single formula use.

Amsoil depends on the vehicle I've heard good things about them but witnessed bad. about 8 or 9 years ago I worked for a shop that did fleet maint. for a delivery service (Airborn Express) they bought 10 new 1/2 ton vans 5 chevy and 5 ford. At the first oilchange they had us put amsoil oil and filters in all of them. Amsoil said that we should change it every 15,000 miles. Two vans started having problems around 9,000 miles, they where knocking. we drained the oil and it wouldn't drain, we had to drop the oil pan to find 3 qts of sludge. we then drained all the other vans and every one was sludged up (had to take a screw driver and push it up into the oil drain every 10 seconds to keep it draining).
I Will never use or recomend any amsoil product...

Under severe useage, that would be seen. I change oil, regardless of type at 3-4,000 mile intervals.

Not the Hyundai dealer where I work.We cannot get bulk trans fluid. We stock cases upon cases of the qts.

that sucks. I'm suprised they can't get it. you just order it from HMA just like any other parts order.
