Hi there, this is my first post here and I was wondering how do I tell the difference between a GT and GLS hatchback? I just bought mine slightly used, I think it must have been leased and there is no decal that says either GLS or GT but I know I have rear disc brakes and not drums so does that mean I have a GT??

What year is it? There was only a year, maybe 2, that they made the hatchback in GLS, all others were GTs. Does it have leather? If it does, it's a GT. If it has cloth it is a GLS. That's the easiest way to tell.

Also. . .fogs and alloys= GT. No fogs/alloy wheels = GLS

+1 on the interior, or take a pic and we can tell you for sure plus we can see how it looks.

For the 04-06 models, there is no badge to indicate GLS. The GTs have a GT badge on the rear of the car. If it is a 04-06 with no badge, it is most likely a GLS (or a de-badged GT). But the other features (leather seats, fog lamps, etc.) are good ways to tell too.

isnt there a suspension difference in the springs as well?

I don't think there was on the hatch. I think the hatch carried the same suspension GLS or GT, but the sedan had slightly different suspension.

well the interior is cloth and there are no fogs or alloys. funny I actually prefer the cloth because I own a large dog that I occasionally take to the park and I afraid his nails would rip through the leather... he weighs 96-98lbs. Anyway it sounds like it is the GLS that I have, but on the next nice day Ill take some pics and post them just to make sure. Oh yeah it is either an 05 or 06... so no GLS badge I suppose. BTW do you guys hate the michellin OE tires as much as I do? Cant wait till they wear out so I can put some Kumho ecsta asx's on, I think one of me front tires already has a slow leak....

Right^ They couldn't do much with the GLS suspension b/c part of the reason for the difference is due to the extra weight of the hatch.

Definitely a GLS then.

2006 was the only year with a GLS hatch, so they are fairly rare as compared to the rest of the Elantras.

Welcome to EXD.

hate to correct you super, but they also had the gls hatch in '05 as well. I was selling them that year, and I passed on the hatch when I bought mine in '05 because they only had two, in that brown color, so I went with my sedan.

Yeah, I have one of those 05 GLS hatches. I wanted cloth seats as well, but for a different reason- I test-drove a GT on a 100-degree day here in Texas, and decided they were too sweaty for me. So I went with the cloth. I like most of the other GT options, though, so I've added them when I could pick them up for a decent price. At this point I think I'm only missing the leather seats, the trip computer and the GT badge and all-black grill.

Hyundai says:

Hyundai's best-selling car, the Hyundai Elantra, adds a new model for 2005.
It is the GLS 5-door sedan which features sport suspension and rear disc brakes as standard equipment.

Yeah, I guess I'm wrong. Well, it's still a pretty rare Elantra to have I think. I certainly don't see too many in this area.

The car is not black is it? I saw a Black Elantra GLS Hatch FS up here in the mall, it was black, had hubcaps, no fogs, manual i think, cloth seats. I was looking at it.. i never knew hyundai made hatches in non GT.

The grill on a GLS is mostly black except for just a little on each side on the edges, and the trim piece that is mounted on the hood. Here is my GLS grill:

nah mine is silver anyway so I don't think it was up where you were unless the guys at the dealership were driving it around instead of balancing my tires

also my grill is totally black with no chrome around it... hopefully I can post some pics tomorrow :)

Ok then it is def a gls because its pee green inside, lol. The interior lights actually made me kind of nostalgic because I had a 94 toyota tercel with green interior lights. How does it look with purple? Does anyone have some pics of that? Is it easy to do a conversion to the purple? Also Im retarded because before when I said my grill was all black, it wasn't, I just never looked hard enough to notice the chrome. Although I will say in my defense that the chrome blends in very well with the silver  Unfortunately my dog chewed up my digital camera so the pics of my car will have to wait, in anyone cares that is lol

You obviously had never taken a close look at the pics in my thread under member profiles.
