What is the advantage, if any of a top mount turbo manifold like the one below? And these are equal runner length.

Find out tomorrow if I can get one like this ... without the wastegate flange.

top mount is easier for installing and removing the turbo.

I think you are goin to run into clearance issues with the top mount manifold.

Like what? I thought that was one of reasons for it ...

you'll likely have issues with the radiator and fans.

Not to mention the fact that the turbo flange is just about even with the bottom mounting holes of the manifold. Then you add on top,a turbo that is easily 6 inches or more in diameter. Then rotating the housing so the charge pipes attempt to clear the obvious.....

that manifold looks like it would have tons of clearance issues. the top mount manifold would eliminate the radiator clearance problem but the charge pipe and downpipe. but then again,,,, it being top mount looks like it would give enough clearance to run a good sized turbo with an internal waste gate.

you obviously have to design the manifold for the vehicle in question, and clearance it to fit with whatever turbo/downpipe you're using. I dont think downpipes are a problem for most top mounts, but charge piping may be a bit more difficult.

I agree, and its a tuned, equal length design that is supposed to make major power, especially with a low boost setup. Crossing my fingers ...

I would seriously about the clearance with the turbo. I dont see it fitting, but maybe there is the room under the hood.

What's the worse case scenario? Cut a hole through the hood and put a trumpet on that turbo inlet lol

Question: Are you going for crazy amounts of power? If not, I wouldn't bother with the top mount.

why would it matter, high power or low power?

what about ease-of-access? I wish my alpine log manifold was top mount, i have to completely disassemble it if i want to do ANYTHING.

How does the oil feed/return work on a top mounted turbo? The drain would be on top and the feed would be on the bottom.

Why is that? What does power have to do with rather or not its a top or bottom mount?

You do know what that v-band clamp in the middle of your turb is for right? to clock it (the center section) , when compared to the exhaust housing.

You can also clock your turbo compressor housing only with the cir clip. Turbos can be adjusted indefinitely.

Why is that? What does power have to do with rather or not its a top or bottom mount?

Agreed...

if you want t ogo with low boost (less then 15 psi) i would go wit hshorter runner to get a better spool up
longuer runner tends to create a bit more lag plus the fact that the more tubes and welds you have the more you have a chance of a failiure (cracked weld, tube)

I believe the longer runners allows for better flow in upper rpm range. I've seen a beta engine with a custom made top mount manifold. Looks really cool. What he did was removed the radiator and installed a small aluminum civic radiator towards the drivers side radiator area allowing for tons of clearance with the turbo.

Sweet ... talked to my man, and its a go ... the runners will be a little smaller and shorter for my .57 trim T3. ... more info coming Tuesday, hopefully. Flange is getting cut this weekend ...

Hope to have it by first or second weekend in March ...that means I should be able to get it installed, exhaust built and engine tuned; ready for the Dyno day on the 22nd :D

Top Mount FTW! ;)

usually you would use a topmount with a larger turbo for clearance issues....aka mose honda's with bigger turbos (externally gated) go for a top mount.

with a bigger turbo your going to have lag so having the extra length will help in the top end.

What do you think of this one ... a short ram. Peak boost will take to long, maybe a month so I'm trying Advanced Street Performance in Seattle

or this for $200 ... naaaa
