Dual-view LCD technologies have begun to appear in the home entertainment market, but now Hyundai is trying to bring that technology into the car with a dual-view in-dash display. The idea behind this technology is pretty simple. The driver of the car would see one image, presumably the navigation or vehicle info, while the passenger of the vehicle would see something different, like media information.

Now while, the idea behind the dual-view LCDs is basic, the technology that makes it happen probably isn't. This would be an excellent feature, given that the quality of the display remains sufficient for navigation and the like, but finding a price point people would be willing to pay is the difficult task. I guess we will just have to wait and see, but don't expect to see it in the 2009 Hyundai Genesis Coupe (http://jalopnik.com/359312/2009-hyundai-genesis-coupe-spotted-before-new-york-auto-show-reveal) at the New York Auto Show.

Looks like they're at it again. This is the kind of stuff I would expect to see on Minority Report.

It's like those children's books with holographic images. Look at it one way and it's something and turn it a little and it looks like something else. Is that the basic principle here?

I don't even think this is cool. Look out the windows if you want to look at something.

Yeah, it's kinda like that. Two seperate displays from one monitor.

I think this is awesome..the driver can have navigation maps up, while he passnger watches a movie/tv show..and you don't need two seperate monitors. (Even though it probably costs as much as two..)

^ That's what I was thinking. You can't legally have your dashboard mounted screen showing DVD while the car is in motion in most (if not all) of the USA. This would allow a front seal passenger to watch a DVD while the car was in motion.

Neat find.

^i think the way the law reads in most places is as long as its out of the drivers view, ive seen glove box installs that are apparently legal cause the driver cant see inside the gove, but the passenger can just fine.

and i wouldnt be surprised if they put something in it to stop it from playing when in motion, just like hus now.. which, then what would be the real point? ..

i duno, neat concept none the less
