No no no, don't worry, I'm not modding the 360 you guys bought me.

However, I'd like to mod the old xbox to be able to play PAL format games (European games). I did some Googlizing, and there is way too much info out there. I was hoping someone could lend a hand?

Apparently it's not that hard. Another concern is actually having the games display correctly on an NTSC television set.

Any help is appreciated.

PS - Yes, I want to play cricket video games.

well from my understanding, its mostly in the hard drive... either having a different operating system or something like that. i kno some older systems like ps2, had chips u cud do... ever since hard drives came along, it all changed...

so im pretty sure its either, a reflash, or a chip.

I think you have to play the games on the right side after modding for European games :poke:

I have been thinking about doing this too, since now after getting the 360 I have 2 regular xbox's doing nothing.

I can mod your xbox IF you were closer to me...

Maybe the next time I'm in NoVA - I can stop by and get yours up and running.

There are pretty much 2 ways of modding an xbox:
hardware: get a mod chip
software: softmod (use the game Mech Assault, Ghost Recon, or 007 Agent Under Fire)

I did not have any of those games listed above (or the proper version), so I opened my xbox, hooked up the hard drive to my computer, copy the mod files over and tada!

Mine plays my backed up games, goes on the internet, I can watch YouTube clips, streaming video, play DVD's from any region, play PAL and NTSC games, etc.

follow these instructions:
1. open your xbox and hook up your hard drive to your computer
http://turdinc.kicks-***.net/Msntv/ps2/xbhack.html
the url above contains the 3 letter word for butt...starts with an A and ends with an S
2. use the NDURE setup instead of the files mentioned in step 1

If you are not up to the challenge...send me your xbox and I can set it up for you

This is the help I was looking for (not like all the previous worthless posts, hah). Thanks kk4real.

Chances are I won't want to do it myself (because ultimately I'll mess up, or get frustrated, or just be too lazy to do it). But, let me read over all that stuff and if I decide I don't want to do it we'll talk about me sending it to you.

i have the software and the chips, i mod xbox's all the time

for any info you need, this is the site you need

www.xbox-scene.com

you can buy the chips anywhere, but you need the BIOS software to load on them ... you might be able to get the software if you PM me, or the other post guy might have them

or i'm retarded and didn't read all of the above post lol

For the tv it'll display "right", it'll just be over scanning the image. You wont see the entire picture...sadly, without a PAL moniter, theres no way you could display it "properly."

You should do the XBOX Softmod, that's what I did using Splinter Cell. It's AWESOME. I have 2x500GB external hard drives plugged on my XBOX. You can't play downloaded games (with external hard drives but if you open up your xbox and install a internal hard drive you can) but you can play downloaded movies, you can play burnt games any DVDs.

these are a couple of links that I just found, it explains it better than I can

softmodding is the easiest way but what he didnt mention was that you need to buy action replay max for the xbox. they discontinued this **** because ppl were doing this. you load action reeplay and look for the linux gamesave in the mechassualt folder within action replay. you load action replay through your computer. put the gamesave on the included memory card and save it to your xbox hdd. load mechassault and run the linux game save. you will see a hole new screen showing your ip address and everything. ive never tried to enable the xbox for pal games through the softmod technique i dont think u can. your going to want to get yourself a chip. they do make solderless chips so you really cant **** up your xbox. any other questions, james get at me!

That would explain why I had to go to 5 different stores before finding and buying the last 1. Sorry I should have mentionned that. I'm sure it could be found on ebay.

Actually I just searched for it ...

You could try to get a copy of Brian Lara International Cricket 2007 for the PC. I don't think there is an ASIA (region free version) of the 360 version.

Yeah, unfortunately the 360 version is only in PAL.

I guess the PC version might be the way to go. Another reason to use the wife's laptop for cricket stuff, she'll love me!
