Hello Everyone.

This is an excellent forum. I've been lurking for a couple weeks while I searched for the best deal on a GT. Well I picked up my 02 Gt (silver) today, so I can officially call myself an Elantra owner! I look forward to learning lots on the forums from all you "old timers."

My first question concerns freezing of the hatch. I live in Ontario Canada, and we've had a nasty winter (more coming tonight). When I got the car home from the dealer I couldn't open the back hatch, it was frozen tight. After a half hour drive with the heat blasting, it opened fine. Anyone have thoughts on what I could apply to the weather stripping to help with freeze up?

Thanks,

Blair

good to see another canadian coming to the site, welcome. As for ur question about the weather stripping, I have no idea. I mean, anything i can think of would just rub off if it was to work at all. All I can say is wait till spring lol.

To stop sticking in the future, coat the weather stripping with amorall. Works fine for me. :)

Thanks for the warm reception everyone.

The car is entirely stock. 79,000km, four snows mounted on steel rims, timing belt just done, new brakes all around, perfect interior and exterior. My mechanic said everything looked great..... $6500 from a Subaru dealer.

It has a black plastic hood guard which I think I'll remove, as it detracts from that lovely front end. But then again it won't look so nice with stone chips.....tough choice.
