ok so i plan on getting a crotch rocket around this time next year. ive been looking at dealerships like Suzuki, Kawasaki, and Honda, and was wondering if there were any other brands (not so known) that would give me the same go as the "main stream" bikes. just wondering because i dont really like getting stuff that everyone has. for example - not many would think to mod a Hyundai, lol. maybe hyundai will make bike next year.

There is only one bike right now... the 1400 ninja.. The hayabusa killer :) I want one... Ohh btw the ducatti isnt a bad bike either, but my choices are hayabusa's and ninja's for the obvious reasons. Power and upgrade abilities. Such as Turbo or chrome dress kits.

how much do you want to spend? buell makes great bikes, as does bmw and ktm, and not a TON of people have those

+1... if i had the cash, buell would be the first place i went looking for a bike. not only do they have a unique look, they are remarkably comfortable to sit on imo

please for the love of god, if this is your 1st bike, DO NOT GET anything over a 600cc bike. i dont care if your 250lbs or not. DO NOT GET a bike over 600cc's. stay away from the busas and the zx14. you dont need 180+hp. a 600cc bike will be plenty fast for you.
2nd, stay away from stealerships if you can help it. they mark up the price so much. buy a bike from a forum. 600rr.net, any gixxer site, craigslist, cycle trader. the cost will be cheaper.
3rd BUY GEAR, helmet, gloves, riding boots, riding jacket and riding pants. dont be a squid and wear a wife beater and flip flops. you will be laughed at severely.
4th take the MSF course. reguardless. take it.

oh and buels SUCK!!

a suzuki sv650 is a perfect starter bike. plenty fast, looks cool, and can find one relitavely cheap. im a honda guy, so a 600rr wold be my choice. go to this website cbrextreme.com. thats a local texas forum. they might have an insite on where to buy and where to stay away from.

^ Agreed 100000000000000% I see way too often some stupid kid listening to his "buddies" that talk him into the biggest, baddest bike alive. . . for his FIRST bike. Bad combo. Get a smaller bike, learn to ride correctly and then move up.

After having my Honda (note correct spelling) for the last 9+ years and having no maintenance to worry about other than the normal oil changes and spark plugs and having ZERO reliabiity issues I'll buy another one if/when this one dies. I've been looking at the 929(?) Naked bike they have. If I had to replace mine that's probably what I'd get.

if i were to buy a bike right this second id go with a kawasaki ninja 250r. its the absolute best beginner bike, with a price tag of only $3500, short wheel base for easy maneuvering, and enough power to sustain highway speeds. its perfect. then id crank it up to something a lil beefier.

man so many choices lol. i watched some videos on youtube and the v-twin bikes dont really catch my attention. and i looked for ktm but i could only find dirt bikes. and wow i love the ducati 848. i learned to ride on one of my dads friends katana 600. it was so fun. and another friend let me attempt to ride his busa. and hell no on the busa. i got about 30 feet down the street and couldnt turn around. lol.

OK, with your experience I wouldn't jump onto the litre bikes yet. Stick with the middle weights. The before mentioned Suzuki SV650 is a good choice and it comes in two flavors - the S with low clip ons and a standard version with a more upright seating position. You might also consider the Triumph Daytona 675 or street fighter look Street Triple 675.

Then again, the before mentioned Ninja 250 is a wonderful bike. It's more safe and fun to use all of this bike's HP than a portion of a 600's HP. Cheaper to insure as well.

i was gonna say hyosung but it was already posted, i'd say get something cheap and light for your first bike. I'm going that route myself when I get mine. Your gonna fall off or drop it eventually so it'd be best to buy something used or naked if you don't want to replace fairings. Also buell bikes suck, they are just the "sport" version of Harley Davidson. Aprilla,Ducatti and BMW are all TOOOOO expensive for a starter bike and when you need to do work on them its gonna suck, they don't even make bikes for beginners anyway.

Also like Dave said, gear should be your #1 priority anyway. and def. take the saftey course. I've had a few friends that bought bikes that were way too powerful for them and known a few people that bought new bikes then dropped them.

this is me on and off the track- fully gearer from head to toe http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/2loud2k2xd/P9220007_edited-1.jpg

and a 250 is a perfect starter bike. deffinately NOT a busa, or any other liter bike. even newer 600cc bikes are too much power for a beginner.
