Okay, I'm one of those people that think school zones are stupid. I can understand enforcing the speed limit when kids are outside at recess or something, but most of the day they're inside.

Even so..51?? Wtf? You were asking to get caught.

Pete03GLS
03-06-2008, 01:15 PM
yea i agree... but anyways

about the speed... its a long str8 road... and nobody ever does 25 in it... 25 is incredibly slow for this street... seriously... why did he pick me out, of all the other ****ing cars..

hyunelan2

Because you were more than double the speed limit.

Isn't that grounds for jail time? My wife got pulled over for 38mph in a 20pmh school zone. Her ticket is $313!! WTF!! Carelessness can be so costly.

Yea, those ****ing cops are such a pain in the butt for forcing you to drive double the posted speed limit in a school zone. It's all their fault.

I'm not going to give you as much crap as everyone else Pete, mainly because you're a cool guy.

lol... like i said... i kno i deserve it n all... but comon... NOONE and i mean NOONE ever does 25 on this street, only those 99 year old people do...

i kno its 100% my fault for going that fast and all... but it seems like ****ing bull****, there was cars in front of me going just as fast, because the distance between us was not changing, so wtf, why did he chose me? cuz im young, thats why... ****ing cop.

THANK GOD ALL MIGHTY i managed to sneak my seat belt on... cant even imagine wat it woulda been if i didnt.

Pete03GLS

like i said... BLAH BLAH BLAH i KNOW i deserve it, im not saying i dont, but why did he pull ME over, out of the 3 or 4 cars that were ahead of me? doing the same exact speed.

THATS the part that pisses me off.

im not saying i dont deserve the ticket, or w/e... because i do, i take full responsibility for that.

Munky

No, they're getting on his case because of his comments about the police.

If I was in his situation, I would be cursing the cops too. Not because they gave me a ticket for something that was my fault, but because they're cops. I just don't like cops.

Pete03GLS
03-06-2008, 01:54 PM
the severity of this porbably varies from state to state. i was talkin to jesse from NY n he said he'd have to go to court for this, i dont, i can either pay it or plead not guilty and THEN go to court.

so it probably varies from state to state, and cop too probably.

i dont normally hate or dislike cops... but when this happens... u cant help but to feel some aggression towards them. its normal i think.

hyunelan2
03-06-2008, 01:58 PM
If there were 3-4 cars ahead of you doing the same speed, and you were in the back, that's why. You're the first one he caught up to. Never be the first or last car in a line of speeders.

Qyn
03-06-2008, 02:01 PM
Thank the good Lord that you don't live in Ontario... 50 Km/h over the speed limit gets your car IMPOUNDED. I have to watch myself in town... there's some roads in my town that, just like yours, are long straight dead stretches... perfect for hammering the pedal to the floor.:nono:

In a slightly related note... my gf wants to be a cop, and one of my best friends is... and I still hate cops. Is that bad?

i know what you mean... there are times when they see that im a big dude and ask if i have any weapons in the car.

one of these days im just gonna tell an officer, "with the size that i am, do you think that i would pussificate myself as low to have a knife or gun where i keep my registration? c'mon now officer, you are supposed to be the one with the authority, not some punkass like me with size on his side."

oh and just to let you know, i respect cops and all, but some can be dicks (rookie dicks or veteran dicks), and it is all i can do not to cuss them out for being ****ing dicks. i know they have to do their job, but they don't have to try to intimidate me... the 9mm on their waist and metal bracelets usually do it for me

go to court so you won't get points on your license. if you can get the points taken off it will be worth it in the long run because the cost of the ticket pales in comparrison(sic) to years of insurance at a fixed rate that won't go down for years.

Pete03GLS
03-06-2008, 02:20 PM
how do i kno if i get any points? is it automatic? do they tell u some where? hows this work?

and what do i do when i go to court for this, what do i tell them?

Munky
03-06-2008, 02:21 PM
I think the reason I don't like cops is because they are trained to look for things suspicious. Not exactly profiling...but close.

Take me for example. If a cop sees me, a 21 year old male, driving down the road in a lowered car, loud muffler, tinted windows, he knows he's not going to find an old lady or a Jehovah's witness in that car.

I will admit, I bring a lot of attention to myself, more than I would like. But I love modding cars too much to care, so If I do get in trouble, I bite down, shut up, and take it. Not much more you can do.

Ugzz
03-06-2008, 02:21 PM
that hurts. but a school zone thats 25 is pretty awesome in itself to me. hah, here in PA most school zones in city/residential areas are 15. so 51 in a 15 would mean bye bye license.

also in pa if you double the speed limit that counts as automatic reckless driving, so you would now be breaking multiple laws, and reckless driving is max points..

my brother just got pulled over in nov. no reason really just the cop wanting to be a buttmonkey. ended up he had a suspended license and they towed the car (which is in my name) he went to court for it and the threw a $2300 fine and 3 years probation at him. my sister got pulled over in jan and she also had a suspended license, she went to court $350 have a nice day. seriously?? wtf!

Ugzz
03-06-2008, 05:47 PM

on a side note... maybe your family should stop driving with suspended licenses?

SilverElantra

going double in a school zone here is a way bigger fine. doing 25 over alone in cali is 200+ most of the time being more. my gf just got a ticket for 15 over and it was 200 something.

I don't know how old you are, but Im 21 and it is hard to go the speed limit on road that limit it to 25 but there is nothing but factories left and right and no one obeys it. Same on turns, but Im taking it slower now as tire wear is greatest on turns.

SuperGLS
03-06-2008, 06:42 PM
Well, that sucks. Getting a ticket always sucks. With that said, I'm glad you understand you were breaking the law and not posting "How can I get out of this ticket?" like people in the past have done. I'm glad that cops pull over young people. Hopefully, you (and by you I mean all of us) will slow down after getting a ticket. That way they can give tickets to all of the young speeders which should hopefully lead to less speeding as you get older (knowing that speeding = tickets = sadness).

I got a ticket before, 80 in a 65. I took it like a man and slowed down.

EDIT - Oh yeah, you should NEVER be speeding in a school zone. NEVER. Young kids are too stupid to look both ways and they like to run out in the street. Even when they should be in class. I was a young stupid kid once, I know.

I was one of thoes ****ing cops untill I decided that it's too dam dangerous.
The fun part is I lost my license for 2 years from 18yrs. old to 20yrs. old. I had 2 speeding tickets already that year and then got nailed for doing 120 in a 55.

P.S. Cops are not all bad. Most of them even are nice guys given the chance off the job. On the job though they have to be hard and expect the worst. If they don't they could end up dead.

Cypher
03-06-2008, 07:17 PM
Well said James. I don't ever recklessly speed like you were doing. I'll go like 65 in a 55 on 50 because thats the speed traffic is going and I know the staties won't pull me over for that. Aside from that, thats the most speeding I will do.

Got ya all beat. I once got pulled over for going 34 in a 35.

Swear to god, cop pulled me over, said i was speeding. I said, really? I was pretty sure I wasnt going over 35. He says, yea you were going 34. I said, ok? Speed limit is 35...

Then he said around that curve its 25mph, as marked by the yellow sign...

Not one to argue with a cop, and I knew if he actually wrote me a ticket it'd get laughed at in court. So I went with it. He took my info, came back and handed me a warning. Told me to slow down, i said ALRIGHTY!

I still go 35 around that corner every day, lol.

Cypher
03-06-2008, 08:20 PM
hah. Thats funny. I don't know about other states, but in MD those speeds listed on curves are just the "recommended speeds". Unless you speed over the actual speed limit, being 35 in your case, then you can't get a ticket.

Tommy
03-06-2008, 08:23 PM
Its the same everywhere. Yellow signs are not enforceable, they're precautionary warnings.

Even better that it was like 3pm on Christmas Eve, clear skys and dry roads, couldnt have even tried to say something about too fast for conditions.

Cypher
03-06-2008, 08:27 PM
lol niiiice. I love on-ramps and off-ramps for that reason. I don't have to go the recommended speed as long as I keep it below like 55-60. It makes those reeeeeeeeal fun.

for speeding, 51 in a 25 :( in a school zone. :(

yeah i kno i deserve it, blah blah blah but it still pisses me off...

191$... ****ing cops...

Seriously bro? Just cuz you and 15 other people are smoking crack and pimpin 15 year old chinese prostitutes doesn't make it right cuz y'all were doing it. and you got pulled over cuz you said it yourself "all the people in front of me" if you're last, you're nailed. And this is how it is in NY, Speeding (MPH over speed limit): 1 - 10 MPH over, 3 points, 11 - 20 MPH 4 points, 21 - 30 MPH 6 points, 31 - 40 MPH 8 points, More than 40 MPH 11 points, Reckless driving 5 points. So as you can see, in NY you'd get 6 points on your lisence. 11 points and it's gone. Anything 30+ over here is considered reckless driving, you get your car towed, you get arrested (at least that's from what I've experienced) and you automatically lose your liscense. And here's the kicker 40+, it's instantly gone, plus the 5 for reckless driving, so you've got to get 5 points off just to be suspended lol. And Pete, you're STILL not wearing your seatbelt? (Passenger safety violation, including seat belt and child safety seat violations for passengers under the age of 16, 3 points) You know you see an airbag blow in your face once and then have your car flip through the air, you'd be putting that thing on ALL the time, trust, I know this from experience. I won't even drive across the parking lot at a store w/o it on anymore. Now I do agree, the school zones are kinda ridiculous sometimes, a lot of them here are 15 MPH. Do you realize how hard it is for me to keep my car below 20? I'd almost have to pull the ebrake up a click or two, cuz if I look at the gas pedal, I'm doing at least 20. And really, I'm probably not gonna hit something at 30 mph, that's slow enough. If people would teach their kids how to look before crossing, or not screw around by the street, there wouldn't be a problem. NM the fact that people who speed through school zones are gonna do it whether it's 10, 15 or 30 MPH (ahem, pete, ahem).

A lot of times pleading not guilty will get your ticket nollied. The worst that happens is the cop actually shows and you end up paying the ticket. Most times you can get out of any type of insurance increase and end up having to make a donation to some sort of Police fund instead of paying the full fine. My wife had a $200 ticket and ended up paying a $100 donation instead.

Pete03GLS
03-07-2008, 01:59 AM

Put up the money and shut up because you were in the wrong. If you go to court, don't lie and say you learned your lesson because you obviously didn't. Tell the truth and only that. Judges and officers are trained to know when people are lying to them and anything but the truth will just land you in deeper ****.

Great post, I agree 100%.

My only suggestion is to go to court and talk to the cop. Most will cut a deal where you pay the same amount in fines but plead guilty to a lesser charge with no points.

Is it fair? Nope. In my opinion it's "legal" robbery. But here's an easy way to beat them at their game and stop this highway robbery:

SLOW THE F$@K DOWN!

Problem solved.

Amen, brother.

Sorry we have to be the bearer of bad news, but he's right. Going to court won't lower your fee or get rid of it, the only thing you might get is less points or no points. You were still speeding, regardless of how fast the other cars were going.

as much as i would love to agree, becasue well, if you get busted breaking a law.. too bad, you shouldnt have broken it. sucks for you..
but the sad truth is if you are crazy sincere and wear a nice set of slacks and a button down and everything you say is your honor and officer etc. and you dont have a ton of tickets on your record you might get it lowered.. In PA i had a friend who drove like a maniac, should have had his license revoked it was so bad get out of tickets altogether or get almost all of them reduced. sometimes they will just change the fine altogether and give you a ticket for going 10 over instead of 25+over. which is cheaper and less or no points depending..

im not kidding, out of about 12 tickets he paid only 2 in full.. thats right ONLY TWO! he had 5 thrown out and 5 reduced.
The one time he threw himself at the mercy of the court, saying just that. your honor i have done wrong and i throw myslef at the mercy of the court, this will not happen again you can be assured or some cockamamy bull story like that.

i mean i laughed about it back in HS casue he was my buddy, but i look back and he shoulda had his licnese shredded long ago...

You're boned. Going in with an attitude saying its BS that no one else got pulled over is only going to make it worse. You're lucky he didnt arrest you, going double the speed limit in a school zone. Its a SCHOOL ZONE, here if you get that, its an automatic 4 points, plus a fine determined by the speed and then points based on that speed. You would have probably gotten 10 points down here, if you got to keep your license.

If anything, you need to go to court and either A - hope the cop doesnt show up, or B - suck up to him as much as you can, dont give him BS about how you wont do it again, but be respectful and ask if there's anything he can do to help.

They know you'll want it reduced.

When I went in for my "failure to maintain proper control" ticket I was one of the last people to take my turn. A couple people tried to argue and the judge wasn't having any of it. I just said "Guilty" and then when he asked me if I had anything to say I just said "No your honor" and was done with it. This was 7-8 years ago so I don't remember the break down on the ticket, but it wasn't too bad.

see i wouldnt mind going in n just pleading guilty, cuz obviously i kno i am... but, the most important thing is the insurance and points. if i can get that cleared... i wont mind paying the 191. thats the only thing that worries me is the insurance/license problems after wards.

try to talk to the cop before hand. Most places will let you do that. Ask him if he is willing to let you plead for less points. If you're straight up as possible, and you didnt piss him off when he pulled you over, he might help you out.

and that's why I never talk of my tickets ... even though I'm pissed sometimes (more toward myself than the cop), I just swallows the pill and pay ...

Well at least you know you deserved it ... not like a local guy : he went in a Mall parking lot with some of his buddies to do some drift and other stupid things for 2 hours ... he got a "endangering life" ticket and he's freakin pissed at the cop ... idiot!

I was stopped for 38 in a 25 once. I was driving through some small towns and the speed limit all og a sudden dropped from 35 to 25 when I crossed the township line. The cops were sitting there waiting for people. I was one of about 5 people pulled over. It was a classic trap and I fell for it. This is a 4 lane road (2 in each direction) and even 35 is slow. 25 is just stupid but I was caught just "keeping up with traffic". I went to court in a dress shirt and tie (my normal work clothes) and asked the cop, what can you do for me on this. He offered the reduced charge with no points and I agreed. It took all of about 20 minutes. Was I pissed? You bet but at least I didn't get any points.

Dude I hope they give you the F*cking chair and a million pionts. Seriously, You were speeding in a School Zone, weather the kids were actually outside or not doesn't matter. Just because you were the only car pulled over doesn't matter. they a gonna use you to set an example. Suck it up, take the points, the higher insurance premiums, and pay the fine. Oh and SLOW DOWN!!!!

hey rota, **** you, ok buddy.

btw, im pleading not guilty n takin this **** to court.

the end.

Yup, you are immature.

I cna't believe you think its rediculous that you get a speeding ticket. If this was in any place but a school zone I wouldn't care so much. Oveiously school was in session right? Kids were getting out of school, walking across the street at times since it was a 20mph zone.
Your the one that was being UNSAFE! Now you are saying you have plans for your car? I hope its not increasing the power output of the engine.

The funny thing is, you came on the forum to tell us you were being UNSAFE in a SCHOOL ZONE!!!! AND you want sympathy for it???:kick:

see i wouldnt mind going in n just pleading guilty, cuz obviously i kno i am... but, the most important thing is the insurance and points. if i can get that cleared... i wont mind paying the 191. thats the only thing that worries me is the insurance/license problems after wards.

The most they would do is probubly get rid of the fine and have you plead guilty to the ticket. Its a damn school zone, you think they will go easy on you? I hope you go to jail for trying to fight this!!!!

Well at least you know you deserved it ... not like a local guy : he went in a Mall parking lot with some of his buddies to do some drift and other stupid things for 2 hours ... he got a "endangering life" ticket and he's freakin pissed at the cop ... idiot!

IF he knew he deserved it he wouldn't be saying "****ing cops" like its there fault he got a ticket. This kid was endangering lives and should get the maximum penalty.
