I was just wondering how exactly do the rear seats in an XD hatch fold flat? I've searched the forum and got a lot of references but never really explained it. Does it have anything to do with the nylon loops at the bottom of the seats? Well any help would be appreciated if anyone has pics of how its done that would be awesome although this is a bit obscure of a topic

lol yeah just type in "fold flat" in the search engine for the interior forum and there should be a thread that mentions it, its about the fourth post down by "XTRAWLD"

They do fold flat, you need to just pull on the bottom of the seats and then flip them towards the front. Then, the backside just folds flat.

Step one: Put hand under front of seat bottom cushion

I don't like to use the nylon strap because it started to rip the fabric on mine...
Step two: Lift up to unclip front of seat

Step three: Pull seat bottom forward

Step four: Tilt seat bottom forward and tuck behind front seat

Step five: Press button on backrest

Wow! That is extremely detailed for something such as this, lol, consider making a DIY guide ;)

P.S. I'm jealous of the sun there :(

we need to get that put in the DIY section, along with the rear cupholders.

...and because I know it will come up: the sedan's seat bottoms do not flip up. The seat backs fold down, but only the hatch has the flip-up seat bottoms.

I showed that to a Hyundai salesman when shopping for my Elantra. He said he knew Elantras and that he KNEW the seat bottom did not fold forward! The guy was clueless and actually told me NOT to pull the nylon strap because he thought it would break something. I popped it up anyway and said, "Told ya so. And for the record, I'm not buying from someone as clueless about his product as you are." What a tool.

When I went shopping for my 3rd XD/XD2, I wanted the hatchback specifically for the fold flat rear seats. At the time, I was a Building Engineer (fancy name for a maintenance man) and I needed that ability for tools and supplies I may have had to throw in there.

It has come in handy more than once here lately since I've been moving around a lot.

sweet! Yeah I've been thinking about folding the seats flat for my dog, he's pretty big and maybe this will give him more room...
Also this might save my fabric too

^ I agree with you, it will definitely save the interior.

The cargo cover that used to be in my car, well, I tossed that a few months ago. I mean, I still have it, but I no longer keep it in my car. Just remember to remove it when you are traveling with your dog, that will give him/her a ton of room to roam around, or lay down.

Or... if you don't want your dog sneaking up to the front, you can simply put it between the seat bottoms and the front seats when you fold the bottoms up. That's where I stow my cargo cover when I'm hauling stuff. Like this:

I like having the cargo cover. It keeps people from looking into my hatch. Also, I get more spl with the cover on and the small seat back down.

I'm thinking of making a DIY for turning on the headlamps too. But that's for another day...

And yes, the sun is nice. It was 81 degrees here today. I was laying out naked by the pool, and it felt good...

So naturally I had to go out and look for the loop in my sedan yesterday before you posted thinking, " How have I not noticed this in the last 4 years?" Then again I couldn't remember if I had a split rear seat or not so it shows how much time I spend back there.

Another cool thing on the hatch, at least - the indentation underneath the seat bottoms is *just* big enough to stow both the headrests underneath before you fold over the back seats. Just a tip!
