Thinking about street racing? Think again.

http://www.wcnc.com/video/news-index.html?nvid=220060&shu=1

I can understand confiscating them for racing, but this is too much. :(

If this is a repost, then I'm sorry. This was posted on NT and I had never seen it before. Didn't find it with a search, either.

What's wrong with it? If you can't do the time, don't do the crime!

Ahahaahaahaha... HAhahaha... AHhaha... Ahah.. Ha... *wipes tear... whew, im good now :D

so they catch them racing, confiscate the car. strip it back to near stock, then make it into a cruiser and bust people with it.. HILARIOUSLY GREAT

my buddies uncle used to be a cop in FL when i was in HS he said they had a few undercover cameros that were a little souped up they used to catch racers..

fantastic

also when the guys who got busted get their licenses back how beat would you feel to get pulled over by your own car that got confiscated haha, i can only hope that happens..

if they only take the vehicles of street racers then it awsome. but if theyll take my car becuase i ran a red light or followed to closely ill be pissed. also they should do the same here. here where i live they only stop you if u have a crappy car i remmember last year on a cruise night there was a viper racing a ferrari and the police did nothing to even try and stop it and yet my friend got pulled over in a civic for going 10km/h over the limit. this is why i know we wont get cought doind 220km/h in my friends mercedes becuase cops here suck up to rich people. so if this law should come in effect here they should not just go after the mustangs and civic but also after the vipers and ferraris.

end rant

Actually, i don't even think they are taking much back to stock. Notice the 350 still had the CF hood. It is in a sense the ultimate undercover car.

My only problem with it, like the Canadian point of crushing the cars, is who's to determine your a street racer. Just because you might have a car that looks like one, dont mean you race it. They are going to have to have some real strict guidelines on when the car gets confiscated and converted, like 3-4 infractions of the racer nature.

I would even be happy if they imposed a "one strike then you're out" policy towards this. Just so long as they recognize that not all cars that look the profile fit the profile.

Yeah that is awesome until someone is driving to fast past another car and they call it "racing". How many times have you see a picture of a wrecked car with a wing and graphics on the net and the first comment after that is posted is "he shouldn't have been racing" or "he needed to slow down". Who knows what the hell happened. Maybe the car was 5 under but hit black ice and spun out. Maybe some drunk ran him off the road. I guess it depends on the laws of that area, but what is going to stop a cop from taking a show car that was driving to fast? They show pictures of a kitted car in court and people are going to say "Oh yeah that looks like a racer". This could easily turn into something anti-car guy in general. Not just the street racers. A buddy of mine with rims and a fart can got pulled over after a stock looking car burnt out near him. He got the racing ticket, not the car that actually took off like an arse.

If they are only seizing cars that are 1034141% racing as in two of them lined up, had a flagger, went 4 times the posted speed limit. Then only took those cars to bust others with tickets for driving stupid. Ok, more power to them. I am not anti-cop by any means, but I believe if you give someone to much power there is a good chance they will abuse it. As it is getting any ticket things seems backwards. More like guilty until proven innocent.

Also, If they are doing this they need to start taking cars from drunks as well. They account for what, 50% of traffic deaths.

I like the idea of using suped up cars as police cruisers but I dont agree with using the actual ones that they take away from the people who own them. I mean they are putting miles on them and doing god knows what else I dont think it is fair. If you do the crime you do the time, but you shouldnt hand over your car which you put all that money into to the police to fool around in. somewhat cool, mostly bs

i agree with this 100k% this is a cool idea until they start profiling people who are in the car hobby all as "racers"

street racing is stupid, ill admit, ive done it, but i realized that its really a foolish thing to do. its just asking for trouble and possibly injury and death, and damage to the car. we just need a drag strip here....

well, it sucks for those that go over the limit, cuz you're probably not picking that up as easy as a crown vic, but for the cops that are driving those +1 on having your job not suck so bad!

this is all total bs. theyre taking cars that are confiscated and "trapping" people into race scenes/events. **** that. if your car is confiscated you can pay to get it out. now theyre gunna beat on them, add lights and all that bs, and drive em around? what kind of bs is this? that cops a ****en *** hole..."im gunna take ur car and have fun driving it around" yea **** you buddy. theyre gunna look for anyone with rims and a wing and rev next to em, and end up takin that ****. this is out of control what they are doing. i totally agree with doing speed limits and obeying the law, but this "operation" is in complete and absolute bs.

^^ Ditto.

I have been reved at so many times, and all I do is smile and shake my head as I drive off calmly... Once I really got this chevy cavy owner pissed off because I wasn't reacting and he was revving it every single red light and sounded furiously pissed for some reason, lol.

i dont really like the idea of using other peoples babies to catch street racers. kinda like indkezra said, its cool that the cars are bad *** 350s and mustangs but its pretty f-d up knowing some one put all there time and money in something they probable loved doing just to get it taken away

I agree with Wytchdoctor, when the guy in the RAV4 smashed into my car after going through a stopsign, I overheard the firefighters talkin about another "racer" crashed their car. I was ready to unstrap myself off the backboard because I was like WTF! It wasn't my fault! Im sure people that drove past and saw the car thought the same thing.

Profiled!
Now for people caught street racing I don't care about their cars.

I think this is awesome. I've always thought that the police should be in various different cars and not just the standard Crown Vics and the like.

I think some of you are a little too worried. Chances are that the people who had their car confiscated had something else going on that was a big deal if they weren't able to get their cars back.

to be perfectly honest, if i had a car that could compete with either of those 2, and i saw them behind me (not knowing it was in fact a REAL cop) i sure as **** would not stop. but obviously after watchin this vid, id know, and probably end up pulling over. but i say thats taking it too ****ing far. i dont like it.

cobra had its mods removed and still had 550hp? right. they only put out like 380-390 stock.

honestly though, i dont think its a bad idea. its not like some of you tools are making it out to be. cop isnt going to come up behind you in your cobra, think "hey, cool car, ill bust him for street racing", tow your car, and be in it the next day. those patrol cops probably arent going to be driving those cars. they'll probably be assigned to an UC. i mean, if i roll up on a car with a cop in a uniform, im going to put 2 and 2 together. there will have to be multiple offenses, proof, trials, etc etc.

Here's the thing that bugs me. The people here that make their cars look like the typical street racers, are now getting upset because people are "mistaking" them for street racers. What do you think when you see a blond in a mini skirt and tube top? Do you think shes a preacher? What about when you see a 60 year old man with a long gray ponytail and tie-dye shirt? Do you think he's a CEO?

SilverElantra

how many cars on this forum do you truly group into that though ricer? describe a typical street racer?

i could see where his car could have been grouped into the street racer group, but honestly there are a lot of cars like that around here and not as single one of them races. they drive like jackasses, but i go to the local gathering area and none of those guys ever show up.

03-11-2008, 01:33 AM
Ok, I'm not saying everyone fits the stereotype. What I'm saying is that if you make your car to look like it fits in with a stereotype, don't get upset when people group you in...

seriously..

also in the article it said they removed illegal mods and the car still made xxx horsepower. meaning they probably did have some stuff not up to snuff, theres a few stangs around here with strait pipes and "friends" who do inspections etc. so i can see this happening..

quote of the thread right there.

And the mustang likely had something like a nitrous oxide system. NC is pretty lax on emissions requirements, so pretty much anything goes.
