this might be a long one, but a good one!
so yesterday i was driving home from work to cuz i forgot my hockey equipment for practice. i live about 15 miles from work and was about 5 miles away when my air fuel ratio shoots up and the car stalls. i pop the hood and check everything. all connections were good, oil was good, Interooler piping fine, vacuum lines were fine. so i get back in the car and it starts up no problem. so i make it another half mile and the same thing happens. so before i get out and pop the hood i try and start it again..... it wont turn over. i give James (Keyan) a call, hes my on call mechanic, mentions it might be the fuel pump. so 5 minutes go by and i get it started again, make it less than a half mile and i hear the fuel pump stop working, then the AF shoots up and it dies. i was able to coast into a Minekee parking lot. while its in the parking lot i call my buddy from hockey to come pick me up. while i was waiting for him i go into minekee and told them my car died and i would be getting a tow later. i have AAA and figured i would just tow it to my house to work on it. then i go back and start it up, rev it a little and i probably less than 2 mins fuel pump turns off, af goes up and car stalls. i go into minekee again and tell him whats happeneing and tell him the fuel pump is only 6 months old. he called his parts guy an they couldnt find the relay on a parts list. he looks in the garage, and theres an 03 GLS on a lift in the shop. hes says "hold on" goes into the shop, drops the elantra and pulls fuel pump relay. we swap them in the parking lot and the car idled and reved periodicly for about 10 mins so that was good news. he takes the relay out puts it back in the elantra in the shop and then calls his part guy with the part #. turns out its a dealer part, no big deal at least we found out what was wrong with it for free and it was only a $14 part. my buddy drove me to the dealership and they had 2 in stock. swapped them out, car runs fine!
what are the odds that i die infront of a minekee and theres an elantra in there! haha, i would have spent more money and time to find out what was wrong with it. guess its just the Irish Month!
