More trucks need to be built this way. Low bumpers and with orientation towards car safety, and its something that should be mandated.

Responce for Bobs post:
Ah so govt should have never mandated seat belts? standardized bumper levels (in cars to vans only)? Airbag mandates? As far as i know TPMS and stability aren't mandated, yet anyways.

Plus trying to regulate how people drive would cost more than regulating same level bumpers. Although more policing of trucker actions should be done as well.

c&p'D FROM Eclub:

Or more cars should be built like trucks. Cars are already mandated to have useless, senseless crap like TPMS and Stability control, driving up their prices. So sure, let's get our retarded gov't involved in more senseless regulations on crap we don't need.

My 2 cents, teach people to f-n drive. Not talk on their phone, puton makeup, read the paper, text, play with their videos, eat breakfast, rummage through the car while moving and everything BUT drive. Let's teach some personal responsibility, teach them common courtesy. That would get my support.

I don't disagree about teaching people to drive, but accidents will still occur. What I don't like is feeling terrified for my life because I drive a practical car (not something insane like a GT40) and look over and see a trucks bumper pointed at my head. What is the point of the bumper if it is going to go over my cars hood?

+1 common courtesy... If everyone was a little more relaxed I'd feel alot safer on the road.

Exactly!

Or into your windows rather than your door impact beams.

its threads like this started by people like you that make me sick...yeah, i drive a lifted truck, a lowered car, and a big box truck...i am the kind of driver that drives with others according to how they drive around me, cut me off you bet your *** you are going to have a 26,000 pound truck up your *** for the duration or until i can get around you, sit where i cant see you in my mirrors, you better have quick reflexes, cause air brakes are grabby and i hit them hard, if i have my turn signal on to get over and you fly up next to me, you bet your *** im comin over on top of you.

im pretty much the same way in anything i drive, im not an aggressive driver unless i need to be...but i will not hesitate to go through someone in my personal truck or my work truck if they are driving like an idiot...

and if anyone wants to put their car against one of my trucks, im game...i dont avoid idiots...i aim for em

wheres FordFasterr when we need a good anti vehicle argument?

Asswhole works just as well Reece. Ya know Reece, somehow, when a car guy makes a statement against trucks, its automatically assumed he is the cretin that truckers hate. Plus, they assume they, themselves, are angels.

Well, Soulless: I know and practice the proper truck signals (flashing your lights off when space is available for the truck to pull back over) and leaving the proper space esp in front, try to spend as little time as possible on the sides, and hate the turbulence in the rear. So dont assume i'm the twerp that cuts you off.

i was simply venting a bit, stating my opinion :) i drive for a living and put up with idiots all the time, and i never claimed to be an angel behind the wheel 100% of the time, but when people dont pay attention to signals or the fact that they cant be seen or avoided due to their actions, it pisses me off a little...

Certainly understandable.

And one thing I do have to say. Some of you guys got nerves of steel. If it wasn't for some steady on truckers during that blizzard, i'd have been screwed.

But aside that. this whole point is simply about making a lower bumper for semis, trucks, n SUVs (ya nothing can be done about the 4x4 modders and lifting their trucks) but its just a constant concern of mine esp when i'm doing 75 in the left lane and the trucker comes up and rides my *** while i'm passing someone else.

nerves of steel, and some serious control...i have ridden with a few drivers during some severe winds and was thoroughly impressed with the way that they can handle 70+ feet of truck and trailer...

LOL @ that, the bigger guys do it to me too, but my box is governed at 65...i make a lot of friends passing trucks on a 2 lane highway...

I wasn't referring to semis. In general their bumpers are appropriate height compared to other vehicles on the road. I treat truckers with respect, turn you signal on and I'm either going to brake, flash my lights and let you in, or speed up so I can complete my pass. My grandfather and 4 of my uncles are/were truck drivers. I understand that you are trying to make a living when you are driving.

My comment was directed at lifted pick-ups or standard 4x4 where the bumper is 3 ft off the ground. I also stated in my post that good driving skills would prevent many instances, but accidents do still happen.

yOU KNOW. . .I have YET to see a semi that has a bumper more than 12" off the ground. How much lower does it need to be?

Was that directed to me? If so I agree, semi bumpers are (IMHO) an appropriate height off of the ground.
