im going to change it.. i think autozone has a kit.. is that all i really need to do? i also want to change my manual transmission fluid what kind does it take..

anything else i should do for the 60,000 mile maintenance other than the obvious like pcv and oil etc.

Look in your manual -- it tells you what you should do in addition to the timing belt.

I just changed my timing belt over the weekend. I bought the belt and the tensioner kit from advance discount auto and it was about 65 bucks. The only snag I hit was I dropped the ac tensioner assembly and didnt have it properly assembled and fried a new ac belt. Pretty basic job though, definately worth doing yourself and saving the labor cost. I had a rear bearing hub go out on me, the dealer quoted me $800 to replace that and the timing belt. Did the work myself and saved about $600.

Reminds me of a conversation (one of many) I had with a tire guy who knew as much as the average car salesman.
I was buying some +1 tires and wheels for a Protege long ago, before +1 was a common term.
