Jaguar and Land Rover are now owned by an Indian company called Tata. They say they will bring the manufacturing back to the UK, which I'm sure the English like very much. What are everyone's opinions?

Are they going to put extra-large cupholders in the Jaguars and Range Rovers to hold Slurpees? (sorry, couldn't resist the 7-11 reference)

Not a big fan of Indian management styles (oddly enough, have several Indian friends... good people.) I'm in my second Indian-owned company (I work in Canada). Just don't like the approach to "productivity at any cost". That being said, I'm sure that the expected injection of capital will help the brands more than hurt them.

So Ford split British Leyland, and kept Aston Martin?

As far as Tata, they have only dealt with small cheap cars not high end luxury. I liked the new Jags that Ford was putting out. This is a shame.

Jaguar and Land Rover both suffer from an identity crisis. Not to mention terrible quality. Ford didn't really help them out. The Indians are so new to the car scene I can't imagine them doing much better. Given these are high cost vehicles and not econoboxes (Tata Nano) I would hate to be the guinea pig. (Buyer of their new products) The dealer network is poor for both too. I know here in Cincinnati there is one Land Rover dealer. If you have a falling out with them over service (which my understand is you'll be there a lot) you are screwed. Probably not much different with Jaguar. Just no reason to buy either of these brands when there is better competition out there for the same or even less money.

yeah i feel that the quality will be even lower Tata makes really cheap cars and I don't think they will be able to handle a high end brand. I figure they will either cut costs in manufacturing by using cheaper materials or the cars will change to be less of a high end brand

BMW still makes RollsRoyce in the city that built them for decades. Although I believe the vehicles now have BMW engines. The austin MINI revival that BMW did is possibly one of the biggest success stories of an old icon.
I think an existing(large scale) car company might have better chance of reviving Land Rover/Jag.
Luxury cars have a fairly small market, I wish them luck.

Just looked it up. Did not know it was sold out to Prodrive. That might work out. But Tata getting Jag and Land Rover i dont see as a good thing.

Side note, Ford better keep Volvo.

When Ford bought Volvo there was plans to bring out a Volvo mini van.
Still hasn't happened; sometimes common sense prevails. The volvo Halordex all wheel drive has helped Ford's new models a bit I think.

Interesting. I don't know a lot about Tata, but, I wouldn't be so negative towards them. We'll see what happens.

Doesn't really matter because I'd never buy a Jag or Rover anyway (maybe an old Range Rover to do drive-by's in).

Jaguar XF FTW.
