16.5@84mph.. not to bad with the light mods ive done. Stock I was guessing 17.ish.@80. Im happy. 60ft is what killed me.. need better tires/something to stop that horrible weight transfer. Axle hope was very low.. just couldn't lock up. With a better suspension and tires, Id say 15.8-16.1 easy. Only other thing i did wrong was misgauge my fuel economy. So when I got to the track I still had half a tank... damn exhaust and udp drove my mpg way up.. Even running the a/c half way to the track couldn't burn it fast enough. I might have run a 16.4.... MAYBE a 16.399 with less fuel. R/ts where in the .110-.040 range tonight.. with one .300 for some reason If i dont see the tree start it screws me all up.

can you post your slip or list your 60' times? Did you reset your ECU? Manual right? I ran a 16.5 with just intake/exhaust just want to compare the slips.

i think u should do better than that! i got the same times with auto, and i have a header and CAI, but u have a pulley....

I would have done better but im turning a 60ft time of 2.5. Tires on it right now are for thread life.. not drag racing. Yokohama Avid Touring. No I didn't reset the ecu. Also the track is an over an hour away and the car never cooled off. Im just running a wai and a catback only. Your running full cai and full exhaust. What was the track conditions of your run? How much gas did you have? What track did you run on.. NHRA or a parking lot track? Thos things can effect the times. Im sure with better conditions and less fuel I could pull lower 16s as is. The car on my 16.5 slip normally runs a 16.3 but it was hot and not humid etc. With suspension work and tires I think itll go into the 15s.
After reading a bunch of archived stuff I should have reset the ecu.. blah.. O well. Ill try again later

i had stock tires, almost bald... capitol raceway, 68 degrees outside, and half a tank of a gas.

When ive run with almost bald tires they seem to do better. Well better than almost new tires like I have on it now. Your not trying to move water out from under you. The stock tires may have been better than the tires I have now. The yokos I have were made for longevity not drag racing. Im a copier tech.. I need tires that will last.
It was near 80 degrees when I ran, so at 68 I might have been able to pull a little better. It would have also helped my freakin engine cool down after that drive to get to the track. Like I said before my xd stock wasn't much if any faster than my accent. I would have put it near 17secs. Not all hyundais are made equal. I learned that running after running 3 accents at the same track. One was 16.8 (mine) another 17.4, then 17.1, and another that wasn't on the track but all three of those are faster than it. (btw those are best runs to date) My old accent was built on the day the boss was in.. my elantra must have been built on a monday.. heh. I dont think your automatic is normal. Most run alot slower than that.

Was just looking at the 16.5-16.6 slipsI have. I was running anywhere from a 2.45 to a 2.6 60ft This was just with CAI and Catback. Thanks for posting up your 60's so I could compare. Next time you go definately reset the ECU.

What 60ft are you at now? I think a CAI would make a huge, .2 or so.. guess thats huge with n/a mods, diffrence in times... one big reason is the drive to get to the track. By the time I get there the engine hot and stays that way. I need to be able to pull cooler air in or get a hood scoope. Also getting some mandrel bent piping for the exhaust would also help or a free flow muffler. I really dont want a canister or that raspy sound. Money was the only reason i went with crush bent. No one here has the pipe bending equipment so it would have to have been special ordered. The only thing I have over you at that time was the pulley.. and IMO it did the least of my mods. Not saying they didn't do anything, but was the only thing i somewhat regretted spending 200 bux on. It did however increase my mpg more than anything else, esp running the a/c. The short shifter didn't do much other than make it easier to shift fast. With me not having the clutchless shifting down I could shift stock just as fast as I can now. Its just ALOT easier and feels alot better now with the B&M. The other stuff was free and worth maybe a few horses. Wires and the tb heater bypass thing can only do so much. Ill try the ecu thing. With my accent it hurt me.. guess its diffrent with beta.
The next thing I drop money on is gonna be suspension. Im happy with the way the engine runs now. Just need to be able to turn and start faster. Must stop the weight transfer.. I miss rwd. After that ill work on forced induction. Money is short so I'll also have to wait for another income tax return to try anything like a turbo.

I run a 2.1 60' ft now that's with DRs. On the 17s the best I could pull was a 2.3. The underdrive pully on my car was good for about .2-.3 in the 1/4. I have it off now due to my not putting it on correctly and it ****ing up the key on the crank. The best I ever got out of the car was a 15.523.

Just ran tonight first time at Cecil County and pulled a 16.089 at 86.08mph and that was with 40psi upfront on the tires, 2 hour driving with no cool down, and dragging the clutch off the line for atleast 10 feet lol nice track though I wanna meet up with some of the guys on this board that live around there one night and run.

I will upload the timeslip when I get the chance, but I was at Shannonville on Friday night and on my last run of the night I did:
2.332 60ft
10.194 1/8 ET
69.21 1/8 mph
15.975 1/4 ET
85.22 1/4mph
I couldn't launch much above 3000 rpm on my beyond worn Michelins. The only thing I did beyond a stock 2004 are the CAI and the Jspeed accessory pulleys and the clutch return cylinder spring mod thing. I'm going back to Shannonville Aug 13, maybe I can get a little better speed with more tread and the phenolic spacer. My worst run was my first of the night 16.188@84.87mph. Unfortunately my reaction times were bad, the best being .595 (Shannonville uses the .500)

Hi Guys, took my 2004 to the track last night and ran a 16.700 @ 83.67mph. Not too bad for my first run. Car has under 3000km on the clock and is stock standard besides a cannon muffler. 5 speed manual on stock tyres.
Here is the info for all interested:
Reaction: .985 (woops)
60ft: 2.508
330ft: 7.016
660ft: 10.752
E.T.: 16.700
MPH: 83.67

Just curious...at what RPMs did you shift at? Your times seem a little slow, Like you didn't let the engine run high enough into the powerband before shifting, but maybe it's due to the lack of a CAI and this being your first run. Keep on practicing, and you'll get those numbers down :)

actually depends on the what year he was running. The 01-03s that seems about right for just having switched the muffler. I know I was running about a 16.5 even when I had only the cai and exhaust. Elantra2001 seems to have run the best with a nearly stock setup in an 01-03 while Steve seems to have run a damn good time for the mods in a 04. Still waiting to see a 15.5 or better timeslip NA in any year elantra

I was shifting aroung 6300 which is just before the redline on my car. I will definately say that the times are due to not being experienced with this car. I have raced 1/4 mile quite a few times now so I am not unfamiliar with drag racing, but it usually takes 2-3 runs on the night to get used to the car and track. I will keep trying though! ;)

my best time on motor and stock radial tires was 15.1 gteched and my average was 15.3x before I installed this POS kspec intake manifold...
lucky for me I have a stock intake manifold heading my way soon and i'll be porting it like the carbonman unit I had earlier... i will also retain the phenolic spacer and the bbtb just to see if it works good.. if it doesnt then i'll just put the stock ported TB back on and stick with low 15's all day :)
you could imagine what can be accomplished with a little nitrous on top of all that ! :) hehehe

Ok i might go to gainesville tomorrow night, since its pretty cool outside now, and i have some tires with more tread than last time i went. only thing is i was comparing my old timeslips with the ones people have on here and my trap speed seems to be a little high for my times, i think its mostly because of no traction. heres my best time so far.
R/T .740
60' 2.547
330 6.876
1/8 10.412
MPH 68.31
1000 13.461
1/4 16.013
MPH 89.33
so far my best 60' was 2.430
ive got four other timeslips pretty similar, just kept getting my hopes of 15's up, hopefully ill be in there with somewhat better tires, nothing great but they have more tread on them

Fuel weighs 6lbs a gallon, less gallons, less weight, faster times. And I'm done for this year drag racing, Canada gets snow soon :) But next year I plan on hitting for high 14's, but I'll be satisified with low 15's.

a lil more than 6lbs per galon. what have you done to your car?
Steve
10-13-2004, 10:36 AM
Well I'm sitting at 15.975 right now, but next year I plan on having the underdrive crank pulley, header, exhaust, knife edged and polished throttle body, IM phenolic spacer and the XTD Stage 3 clutch. I'll see where that puts me and if it's not enough, I have do some IM work and maybe even the exhaust side of the head worked on. Plus lowering springs and Tib struts to quell weight transfer.

see post #25 in this thread. Beyond that, I did just a few minute mods to keep underhood temperatures down, like the throttle body coolant bypass, removed the weatherstripping from the front and rear of the hood and the entire insulating tray off the underside of the hood. :)
