View Full Version : Turd strikes again. . .

Well, the turd started making some TERRIBLE noises the last few days. Only off load (coasting or decelerating), and sit sounded like a bad bearing/crappy brakes/something coming apart internally. I hoped and prayed for a bearing. Nope. Then I thought let it be a cheap axle. Uh-uh. Caliper? Nada.

Differential is going going gone. I tried changing the fluid Sunday afternoon. Fluid came out BLACK, gritty and full of chunks. Not a good sign. Drove it again today and the more I drove, the worse it got. Put it in the air, running and as soon as I rolled under the diff there it was. Had the wife rev the engin in gear, and it got louder. Put my hand on the diff and you can feel it.

Damn.

Anyone near here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120243418647&fromMakeTrack=true that wants to pick it up for me

too bad its the whole engine, or i could probably work something out with bringing it back at least to columbus at the beginning of next month after the meet.

i think even if i emptied my trunk, there would be no way to get it in there

I think we're going to just suck it up and go get it this weekend. $200 for engine, trans, axles, struts, alt, a/C compressor, manifold, down pipe, sesnors, struts, calipers, rotors . . the whole front subframe. With the extra parts I could get this car into the 250k mile range.

You're gonna drive to pa? I'm gonna have to hide so you don't hunt me down and beat me for the ricer pics. lol. I'm actually spending the weekend about 10 miles away from there. So I'll watch my back.

Well, sent the seller an email. See what happens from there. Terrible timing. On the verge of picking up a Swiffer and then the damn thing takes a dump. Go figure.

Crap. Engine/trans has to be picked up Sat and I'm working until noon. 9 hour drive. Not looking good.

Auction done. $205 for all. . . that's a steal at double the price. Only trans I could find used "local" was LKQ for $625, trans only. Coming from Maryland. I laughed. . . the car isn't worth much more !!

Nice. Glad to hear it worked out. You should make a trip out this way another time so we can have a mini meet.

UPDATE: Wife got home sat about 9pm. Unloaded it Sunday, popped the VC and it was clean. A little varnish and the oil in it is disgusting, but it had been sitting a while. Turned the engine over by hand, spins free and you can feel/hear the compression so there is some. Plugs are factory Champions. They are pretty nasty, but compared to others I have seen, I'd say the quote of 67k is about right. STill has the OEM wires on it. Also got BOTH O2 sensors, but they torched the axles and mounts.

The Wedding is in Belmar, NJ.

Crash the wedding! Should be plenty of booze! we'll be in the car for sure. Not planning on fighting whacko Jerseyans in a 19' long truck! Wife said she wants small, nimble and quick. Matter of fact, she wouldn't let me drive last time we were there. . . she grew up in Wyckoff. Graduated from Ridgewood.
