Ordered this along with some other goodies today. Oughta be here in a day or two, and I should be able to get some lift time next week. Should quiet down the annoying buzz I've had ever since I got the header. And if not, than at least I'll have learned to weld.

i always hear people go back and forth about this, please do let us know how the glasspacks sound. And do they wear down over time?

They do wear down over time, but I already have a Hi-flow cat and a dynomax super turbo 3 on the car...problem is I get a buzz...resulting in my car sounding like ***.

I'll get pics and video once its installed.

sounds good, how big is youre exhaust?

Are you putting this in-line in the piping as a resonator or are you replacing your muffler with this?

If you're replacing your muffler with a glass-pack like this, be prepared for it to be pretty loud during acceleration and cruising at 2-3K rpm. I had a similar (but longer) glass-pack on my '78 GMC pickup (350 ci V8) as a muffler and while it quieted the truck down at idle it didn't make that much of a difference under acceleration and at WOT.

It's mediocre at best as a resonator. I still have a lot of resonance with the exact same one in place of my resonator.

I would like to do an exhaust and would be interested to hear what the glass pack sounds Like. You will have to post some sound or something. BOB

i have a thrush glass pack in placeof my resonantor, on stock diameter pipe, stock manifold and a super turbo muffler in back and absolutly quiet as can be when the windows are up. and nice and deep when the windows are down. i originally removed the resonator and it got really loud and resonanted, then put in teh glass pack, and quieted back down to about the same level as the stock resonator.

NO!!! Really??? (JFWY) :D

then put in teh glass pack, and quieted back down to about the same level as the stock resonator.

OK, so if it sounds like it did with the stock resonator, what's the point?

On my car I have a header, stock size piping, no resonator and a fart can. It's loud but not buzzy. I do need a new muffler because baffles in it are about falling out and it rattles like crazy. I'm looking at a chambered muffler from my buddies civic (it sound really nice on his car) not typical Honda twang. I have a sound clip some where I'll post it up here as soon as I find it.
Edit hear it is. http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&VideoID=29949897

it was in the trash and long gone!!! LOL! besides, i didnt like how loud it was, i like the setup now!

Its going in line in the piping. I've heard mixed things about glasspacks, but for $20 and any beer I need to buy the owner of the lift, its not too bad a deal.

Glasspacks aren't that bad. The way people make it sound, it's as if the packing will completely disappear after a couple of months/years, but it will ALWAYS be better than just having strait piping through that section.

My experience with that buzz can be eliminated with an 18" or longer 4" round Magnaflow muffler used as a resonator. Magnaflow uses steel mesh closest to the perforated core then the sound absorbing material on the outside. This allows the material to have a longer life span. I am in the process of the same thing right now with my sentra. I installed a Hotshot header and the buzz is unbareable. I'm custom fabbing a 2" SS catback with a Magnaflow round muffler (resonator) and exiting through a 4x9 Magnaflow muffler. I'll take a sound clip of before and after through different rpm ranges to show the difference. I can't wait to finish it within the next two weeks.

Thanks I dont want to have that annoying buzz when the time comes to do mine. BOB

Well, I barely even ordered the glasspack yesterday and it was on my doorstep today. I was shocked, but I guess that means Summit Racing gets a good thumbs up. Looks like its a pretty decent item, I just need to find time to use my friends lift and get my neighbor to tag along with his welder to teach me how.

What kind of a welder does he have? If it's just a MIG it's very, very easy to learn. The hardest part is to put the right settings on, hahaha.

Yes it is very east to mig weld, Tig welding is a tad more difficult and stick welding(a lost and dying art) is what I was forced to learn first

Stick welding is very unreliable... No gas protection... But i always wanted to try... we have the attachment at school but no stick for it :(

What we would weld heavy steel post upright with a sign attached to it. Never had a problem with any of them. With stick welding it all about penetration (No pun intended) lol

Its a mig welder, IIRC.

What I mean is the bead gets easily corroded, because since there is no gas protection, hydrogen atoms are able to get into the bead and then get it to corrode or even just break apart more easily.

You can also have MIG welders with the same amount of penetration.. It's all about the electricity you provide ;)

I am not saying stick welding (or SMAW) is bad. It all depends on the application. Applications such as exhaust piping, I would not recommend too much because of the high stress seen by the bead (s) and the temperature changes. But to put up a sign, like you said, it's perfect. In industrial quantity, they build bridges, big structures with such welding methods. But, once again, it all comes down to what you want to do with your welded parts.

Plus, the splatter is awful most of the time ;)

My dad has a Stick welder and I am always bugging him to let me try it but I dont have any scrap metal. My teacher at school does it with a torch and a brazing rod. BOB
