I know this is never good but is it bad to hold it in first, AT, all the way until it shifts at 5000. I like to show off and think im cool :). I cant wait to get my intake and exhaust to really here it. Just wondering if its bad or not. BOB

Shifting at 5000 is really not redlining.

Peace.

As long as you're not revving it up in neutral and dropping it into park, you'll be fine.

If the transmission couldn't handle it, they would let it go that high.

And just like Felix said, 5K isn't even redline.

No its not What do they Red line at not 8000 like the tach says then. Im guessing 6500. I just dont want to destroy the tranny. Thanks for all the help. BOB

ur transmission has nothing to do with redlining, unless u drop it into drive or something when u redline... other wise, redlining only affects the engine.

Ok cool. this is a little off but what tire actually spins the Passenger one or do they both. BOB

depends on the coditions, if its dry, only 1 might spin, if its wet or something, then both can spin.

Wow there. Some people have become keyboard engineers overnight it seems. What the hell was that answer?

First of all. To answer the original question, both wheels spin. If you're talking about spinning your tires on the spot, then, if you ever attempt to do a burnout, because the half-shaft on the driver's side is shorter, depending on the conditions, you might end up spinning only that one, because of the transmission's open differential design. Though, that's only if you're retarded when it comes to spinning your tires. Then again why would you want to do that?

remember in his thread starting post? he likes to show off and think he's cool! thats the "in" thing now.

no matter what, you're gonna have to try much harder than "redlinging at 5k rpm" to look cool in an Elantra.

But go ahead and redline then drop it in gear. that'll make you look better than cool... you'll be UBER HARDCORE!

My friend toasted is auto tranny shifting it like that.....

Leme know how it goes for you...

I now 100% it won't last long if you do it on a regular basis like he did...

if you want to look cool and spin tires why not get an old rwd car like an old 5.0 Mustang GT or an old regal or sumthin? You should be able to get one for the price of a new transmission with whatever you plan on doing.

I don't do burnouts. I was just curious to see what is the primary drive and if there is traction control. I thought you said that is was alright to let the tranny do what it had to. I thought that it was made to shift at that RPM. BOB

If you drive everyday like that I am sure it will increase the wear and tear. Yeah red line is at 6,500rpm. Honestly though I don't think anyone will think your cool if you push your car to the max at every take off, espicially if it is a AT, NA Elantra, you will end up looking stupid, IMO. Haha yeah don't do neutral bombs, you'll blow your tranny real quick.

My fuel cut has always been right around 6300rpm's.

Ok I don't just mat it and do hole shots I will take off and bring the car up to 5000 sort of slowly. I will on occasion if the conditions are right spin my tires. I live on a dirt road so when I take off I might spin them. I don't do stands or anything. My friends rips around a rotary with the rears locked and the front spinning. God I cant wait for Snow. :) BOB

Ahh its good to open them up every once in a while to clean the valves and the pistons off. BOB

... get some old motor oil and pour a foot long trail in front of each wheel, then roll onto it and redline it ... and don't forget to set your hand brake!!!!:D

lol. Not going to happen, especially doing it "once in a while". You really want to clean them? You can either steam them, or use some seafoam but even at that, if you really really want them clean, take the head off..

When I took my supra apart at 178k all of the pistons were still clean, with the exception of the one where the HG was leaking. My ford ranger was the same way at 110k. ;) all in how its maintained.

I hear great stuff about seafoam. I have never done it personally but I hear it works well.

I have done it in small engines and in my sled and it works alright. BOB
