It seems the more I search and read the more confused I get about tire/rim sizes and rubbing; so I'm just going to ask..... will these rub?
Car = 04' GLS Sedan
Rims = 17x7 +40
Tires = 215/45/17 Lexani N3000

I really don't want to get into rim rolling or extreme camber adjustments.:(
Thanks

Possibly. I have the same tires, but my rims are a 42 offset and i'm lowered. I rub on hard bumps in the rear.

You will rub with those tires, even on stock suspension. Try a 205/45 or a 215/40.

are you even sure they're 40 offset? on the top it says 42. that and they're white. and "lexani" tires, are just rebadged nexen's. for another 100-150. you could have nicer rims with better tires. just a though

It says 40 next to the picture. I'd email the seller.

personally, I wouldn't buy from someone who can't even provide consistent info. if they can't do that, what kind of customer service can you expect?

Hmmm... I'm having a hell of a time finding anything that suits me. The white is "OK", but I would rather have just plain silver. I want to get a wheel/tire package that is already mounted/balanced and I want to spend under $800. That really limits my options, especially on ebay.
Any recommendations? The car is bone stock with crimson pearl paint.

I doubt you'll find a wheel and tire combo with the size tire you want. Most 17" wheel and tire combos at that price that I've seen are 205/40/17.
As for ideas, IMO, those rims you posted suck. ADR makes nice wheels, but that's not one of them. Look more into ADR, Axis, Enkei, Konig, TSW...

Yes, they come with 205/40/17 but I was willing to pay the extra $50 for the 215/45/17.
These are the only other rims from that seller that I would even consider.......

Maybe I'm being cheap, but I just dropped $8500 cash for this car and have little left to spend on rims/tires.

That's where I got mine from as well. Their customer service is very good actually. Email or phone, they responded very promptly and my rims and tires were at my front door in 6 days.

Skip the Nexen cheapo tires. Never heard anything but complaints about them.

Maybe, but for under $700, might as well take the rims and Nexen's and drive them until it's time for a better tire. At any rate, they still ride better then the stock Michelin's.

OK, I've decided to just go with the last ones I posted above.
I need one last bit of advice though; should I go with the 205/40 or the 215/45? What are my chances of tire rub with the 215/45? The only extra weight there will ever be in the back is my 6 year old daughter and the occasional groceries.

Does no one do ANY RESEARCH ON THEIR OWN? Or better yet, does no one take the advice that's offered?
PLEASE read teh sticky at the top of this section. All your answers you'll find there.

Wow, calm down there tuffnutz. Where in that FAQ does it say "tire size XXX/XX/XX and rim size XX will either rub or not rub 100% of the time"
I was asking for a general consensus and recommendations. That is what a forum if for isn't it?
Nice to meet you too.:jerkit:

^^Well, it does say that the 215/45/17 tire will rub in some configurations. In your current case, I would say chances are good they will rub as mine do and I have a very similar set up. If you want to avoid it, get the smaller tire and replace accordingly down the road.

I realize it says "in some configurations", but that statement is almost useless without any elaborate examples.
So you went with the 215/45/17 on your rims then? If that's the case and you say they rub, then I will stick with the 205/40/17.
See, was that so painful? I asked for some real world feedback based on others similar experience and I got an answer. All it cost this forum was one more thread out of thousands. Sorry if I inconvenienced anyone here. :headshake

205/45/17 is the correct size. 205/40 is too small, looks like a clown car on stock suspension and will give an errant speedo/odo reading. You'll spin the engine faster to go the same ground speed, losing fuel economy. One way or another, you pay for it. plus, if you deal with the constant freeze/thaw cycle like half the midwest sees every winter the huge potholes will bend rims faster than you can say "cheapskate".

Yes, but like I said earlier, I am lowered as well. If you drive hard or have people in the back a lot, or have a sound system, the 215/45 will rub on that rim w/o fender rolling or camber adjustment.
205/45/17 is the correct size.
Unfortunatley, not a size this guy carries/offers:(

Screw it, it's done. I went with the 215/45/17. If they rub I will beat my fenders with a wooden rolling pin.:hammer:
I will post some pics when they arrive and I get them put on.
Thanks again.
EDIT: One more "dumb" question I can't seem to find an answer for. Just out of curiosity, does anyone know the proper camber for rims/tires this size? I don't mean negative camber adjustment to prevent rubbing, I mean the "correct" camber setting for even tire wear.

You will see that many are running between -.5 to -1.5 with no real excess wear issues. If the one's you have on now have been wearing normally and your new one's don't rub, i'd say you don't need any adjustment.

The specs will be on the computer of the alignment machine when you get it aligned. However, it really doesn't matter unless you buy camber bolts or slot your struts bolt holes so you can adjust it to the spec, or within the spec tolerance.

Spec is -0.4 to -1.4. There is about 0.5 degrees of play (which isn't much). You can buy camber bolts and they are pretty easy to install.
Your going to rub because of those tires. I had continental 215/45's that were about as narrow as a 205 tire so it fit easily. Those N3000 fit closer to 225.
A 215/45 tire can be as narrow as a 205 or as wide as a 225.

I finally got my new wheels put on. The ebay seller forgot to send the hub rings with the wheels so I had to wait another four days for them to show up.
They ride very nice; especially compared to the stock wheels. They seem to be balanced perfectly; no vibrations at all. If I tried to find a comparable rim/tire combo locally I would have paid twice as much.
I don't think I will have any rubbing issues. I would have to hit a really hard bump and then it still only looks like there would be minimal contact with the sidewall. If I ever decide to lower it any I will definitely roll the fenders though.
Thanks again for all the help.

if you don't weigh the rear down with stuff in the trunk and heavy people inside i'd say you could lower it 1 inch and not rub.

i keep hearing people say they rub. at stock height, lowered 1 or 1.5 inches. i was curious what are you guys doing to make the tires rub? the only reason i ask is because i have 215/45/17 with a 2.5 inch drop and i have never rubbed anything.even with three people in the back seat.
