Ok so I saw a new Cobalt SS Turbo last night. It was a dark chianti/crimson red and it looked great. Body wasn't as ridiculous as the Cobalt SS Surpercharged, closer to the regular SS N/A. The wheels were what really set it off however. I am a strong Cavalier/Sunfire/Cobalt hater but this one looked promising. Had Michigan plates of course.
Looked just like this example only in said color.

Man I don't care what they look like or do to them I HATE COBALTS!!!!! If they were to make them RWD on the solstice platform I MIGHT consider one but other than that ewwwwwwwwwwwww!

Huh... that's interesting that they've changed from a supercharger to a turbocharger for '08.
I almost like the exterior look of the Cobalt SS, but having driven, ridden in and seen the hit and miss / poor overall finish and quality of Chevy products in general and the Cobalt / Cavaleirs specifically over the last decade I don't think I'd ever drive one unless it was given to me for free.

Cobalt? Or Cavalier? Cavy's were mediocre at best, but look at their selling prices. You could nab one for $10500 with rebates back when.
The Cobalt SS's took SCCA Club nationals this year so the chassis is very potent. Adding a 260hp turbo-4 is just icing on the cake. For a "tuner" car, you can't go wrong. GM offers hop up parts from the GMPP dealers.

I live within 15 miles of the Lordstown Cobalt assembly plant and have heard all the horror stories of the wonder that is the UAW. My friend has had his Cobalt LT for about a year and a half and has had zero trouble with it. I have also heard that "Cobalts come into the dealer for repairs all the time" from some. I would estimate that 85% of small cars on the roads in this area however are Cobalts/Cavaliers/Sunfires/G5s. I just enjoyed the look of this vehicle, but from driving my friends LT before I hope the turbo wasn't the only thing added.

The Cobalt is certainly a step above and beyond the Cavalier. I have yet to drive a Cobalt, but I imagine as Bob has said, that it's a pretty good tuner car.
How "good" is the supercharger on the older SS? is it a true supercharger, or just hype a la V-TEC?

It's actually an Eaton MP45 or MP62 supercharger variant on the 2005-2007 Cobalt SS, I believe. You don't get as much peak HP, but you get a flatter HP and torque curve, and often the same or more "power under the curve" with an SC. However, car HP numbers are all about "Peak HP" for which turbos are better.

Huh  It is a belt-driven supercharger just like every supercharger I have ever seen.
Sorry, I meant to ask if it was something to write home about, or if it added about as much horsepower as the 2-foot wing on the back of it.

The stock SC was good, it's a roots style Eaton. GM offered stage 2 and 3 packages with larger injectors and smaller pulleys putting power on a otherwwise stock 2.0L ecotech to over 300whp. You could also add the exhaust and header for a few more ponies. Stock they run low 14's, high 13's and typically dyno around 200hp at the front wheels, even though they were rated at 205 at the flywheel.
