Hey all I'm looking to by a new mountain bike once I get my refunds/incentives back. And was wondering if anyone has any input on what bike/brand to get or wether or not to build my own. I'm looking to hopefully spend no more than $1k on it but if i build it it'll probably be 2k anyways

Specifically a single speed 29'er with front suspension and disc brakes. I'm thinking I should get a frame with the rear sliders instead of the eccentric bottom bracket so any help here is also a +.

I plan on probably commuting the 8 mile round trip to work with it and give it and myself a workout with it atleast once a week too.
i'm looking for a bike I can quite literally beat the sh!t out of and not goto pieces in a few years.

thanks for any constructive input.

wow...i used to ride a good bit, pretty decent technical trails.

Id do 30 miles round trip on a $200 Specialized solid suspension. Was brutal at times, but still a lot of fun, and never convinced me to buy anything in the 3-4k range. Probably rode that bike for 4 years, never had any problems with it.

Wait for Mike (hyunelan2) to see this. I know he just bought a bike and can probably help you out.
