Not only is there a TSB, but it's a recall. Get it done for free.

awsome.i read though that the TSB is only for 1999 and above elantras, but im not sure if it was accurate. just to clarify,it is for the 1998 model too?

you never mentioned you had a j2. emissions warrenty is 8 years 80,000 miles i think? or maybe more for hyundai. call the dealership. find out if they will replace it for free due to emissions.

1.8l and 2.0l Beta1 exhaust manifold are the same, only difference is, some models had a a 2 pieces manifold/cat.

Find a used manifold/cat in a junkyard, also I heard the california part is somehow different.

thanks for helping me out.but umm i live in California so is that something i should worry about when i go to the junkyard to get one?will mostly any year elantra 4 cylinder have a exhaust manifold that is compatible with mine?and if i could get a performance header for around 100$ that would be cool because i would probably want to upgrade to one of those anyways in the future.where should i look for good, cheap performance headers?thanks for reading this whole thing sorry its so long

I don't think you can actually replace the manifold/cat for a 4-2-1 header due to inspections ... I would wait for an answer from a California resident to confirm that!

But you can look on ebay for a Tiburon header :

They are not bolt-on though, so you'll need some exhaust/weldong work so that the header and OEM exhaust joins, my experience with a Tib 4-2-1 header :

it would work but the front pipe don't have the same lenght, so you need to add a small pipe (like I did) or have the header or OEM exhaust extended to fit.

The flange are all the same and are aligned correctly, they just have different lenght.

oh ok so is there any other years of Hyundai elantras that have the same manifold as mine?because im going to the junkyard and i wanna know what to look for if they don't have a 98 elantra

jalmir

1996 to 2000

EDIT : or Tib from 1996 to 2001 ... the manifold/cat unit is the same, what change is the fron pipe length.

jalmir

nope, Elantra 96-00 ... 01 are Beta 2 and I think the bottom flange might not be exactly the same, I don't know, I guess the beta 2 manifold are pretty much alike ... but to be sure someone should compare both. (I know there is a difference between the X3 and LC exhaust manifold, the bottom flange on one is straight and the other one have an angle)
