Hi,

I am finally going to install the Intake Cam for a Beta 1 engine when I change the Timing Belt. I have a few questions regarding it's installation. I looked over the thread in the forum he mentions new Retainer Bolts, but will I need new shims or lifters? As well any thoughts on what to look out for and be cautious about would be appreciated.

the beta1 has a hydralic(sp?) lifter assembly so its self adjusting.

Looks like he's trying to install a Beta 1 cam into a Beta II. sounds like more of a challenge than a first timer IMO.

oh, I took it differently. I agree. A bit of a challenge for someone who isn't sure of what they are doing.

you need to reshim it. take measurements and get the shims from the dealer.

good luck, you are the first person on this forum to do this mod, tell us if it actually makes any extra power.

And if it doesn't, you still get a +1 for trying something none of us has.

Well kind of, I did the exhaust cam back in 2005.

Even after proper adjustment there was lifter slap due to the cam being designed for use with hydraulic lifters that have the rollers on the end, the Beta II has shim over bucket mechanic adjusters and cause a constant tick tick tick...If I am not mistaken the 1.8 intake cam is less aggressive than the 2.0 Beta II cam that is why most Beta I owners install the Beta II intake cam, and Beta II owners install the Beta I 1.8 exhaust cam.

I can not vouch for the accuracy of the 1/4 times posted in that thread because I was just learning to do the 1/4 so there was a lot of fluctuation in my times.

Had a little gain in midrange power IIRC but nothing major.
