painted pinstripe removal

has anyone acually removed the painted pinstripe off the 04's all the post i found were about the sticker one i didnt see anything bout the painted.... any help ???

Yuck! I've never seen an elantra with the pin stripe...must be something new???

mine has the stripes but they were added by the dealer, i've tried to get them off with no luck :(

Yeah, unfortunately most dealers have NO idea what looks good. That being said they pin stripe everything!!! in hopes that it will mak people happy..usually does'nt. I think you're going to have to 1.) leave it and make it work or 2.) Bring it to a good autobody shop and pay some $$.

I have a 2003 w/pin stripes. My pin stripes are the stick on type (if that is what you call them). I think I can pull them off w/minimal residue.

If the stripes are painted, you need to have a body shop sand them off and redo the paint. I also suggest having a shop to remove the sticker type as well.

so basically the only way to get it off is to get a body shop to sand it off ???

If it is painted, that is what I recommend; I happen to paint cars so I know a thing or two about it. I have a special tool in addition to a heat gun that I remove the sticker type of stripes with.

To remove a sticker stripe and buff the area, maybe $100.00 (for the whole car). With a painted stripe, the cost is much higher since the paint will have to be removed and the areas resprayed. To do it right and have it look good, both sides will have to be redone, meaning the stripe removed and the area primed and painted with the whole side cleared if the stripe runs from front to back. You can't spot paint the modern paints because you will be able to see the difference. When I repaired a fender on an Eclipse, I primed and base coated the damaged area, which was by the lower wheel well and cleared the whole fender to get the fender to match in hue and tint of the color.

Use a heat gun or hair drier and wrap duct tape around a something round and roll it over the heated stripe and it should come off. Then buff off the residue or use a clay bar for a good 8 hours.

Then hes screwed, cover it with some vinyl graphics.

the painted stripes must be sanded out, which means the car has to be repainted as a result, upping the cost.

The stripes I install are painted on them the car is cleared. I don't like to paint a stripe over a clear because the stripe can flake off easier. I don't like stickers either because stickers generally destroy the paint underneith the sticker.

i got a neighbor who can do anything with a car, he did the tint for 110, i had it for awhile now ,still no problems with cops :)
