I received a T3/T4 turbo with unknown BoV and Wastegate from a friend today... Only problem is that he wrecked the car 4 or so months ago and has no clue of the working order of these parts...so the question is "What is the best way to find out if these parts are any good?"

Testing them on a turbocharged system. As for the turbo check how it spins (supposed to spin freely), check for shaft play (up-down, back and forth), check for oils spilss inside the turbine and compressor housing and check for coal buildup in the exterior of the middle section.

Don't excatly have a turbo system to check on but as far as cleaning and or rebuilding... Does anyone know of a guide or kit that is worth purchasing? I will put some pics up of the items when I get the chance...

There are many rebuilding kits but sometimes is not worthed. Post pics, try to find thed model of the turbocharger and let us know

My friend currently has bronchitis so has not been able to make it to the post office to ship me everything but while I wait I will clear some fog from my head... I plan on using the SMT-6 and I am curious to if this is the only thing I will need for tuning? I see people using a Turbo Box and I am lost to what that is... I tried searching for it but couldn't find any information... Please help without eating me up to much...

honestly, I'm running the smt-6 and i have a turbo box, i haven't even put the turbo box on yet, but i will, sometime. it forces the ecu into running in open loop when you get into boost. this stops the ecu from trying to change the amount of fuel going into your engine. it's good to have, you won't have to reset the ecu all the time to get everything back to where you had it.

The turbo box is nothing more than a switch that applies higher voltage to the tps signal wire. Its switched on by the aux output wire on the SMT-6. If you run subinjectors instead of larger injectors you can use the analog map on the SMT-6 to do a progressive ramp up of the TPS signal for a smoother switchover between closed to open loop.

Just to clarify... Your saying it would be better to run a dual rail setup where the car runs it's stock injectors exactly the same as it always has and the SMT-6 will add the additional fuel by a second set of injectors.

Yup! Exactly what I'm saying. Doing it that way you only need to tune under boost. The OEM ECU and injectors will take care of your low load cruising tune all by itself. Gives you the best of both world. 100% stock off boost, and all the fuel you'll ever need on boost.

Very cool... So with this setup is the turbo box needed or no? And can you direct me to somewhere I can learn more about setting up a dual rail system?

Right here is a SMT-6 and a turbo Box for 150. BOB http://www.elantraxd.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29976

for a street driven car, dual rails are the way to go,
easier to tune, and better driving
for the turbo box,
it does trick the tps sending the ecu in open loop, but it's more then a switch
doing it with the analog map instead will work for a map sensor car, but i would avoid it with a MAF based car
for the dual rail system, i still have some in stock ;-)
it basicly goes between your intake manifold and cylinder head, letting you use 4 extra inejctors wich will give a perfect fuel distribution
when used with a smt-6 you have complete control

I think I understood that... Moral of the story is since I am running a MAF based car you think it better to just run the SMT-6 with a dual rail setup and no turbo box?

on maf based cars i modify the maf signa with the analog function
i'm doing this to get a better transiton from stock injectors to extra injectors
so in your case i'd say
smt6
turbo box
extra injectors spacer kit
4 injectors
2 or 3 bar map sensor
required harness/connectors

Looks like my friend fell through with the turbo... Someone offered him cash for it and he of course took it so now I am on the lookout for a turbo again...
