Not that I'm a tree hugger, but that's hardly an environmentally responsible move. If anything, put a high flow cat on that and save some ozone for the rest of us. The search button is your friend, headers have been discussed tons and tons of times.

people who have this have never complained, altough this company sometimes have slow shipping.
I have ordered from them and got my item in about 2 weeks.

I'd do a catback exhaust first and some sort of intake, either a short ram intake or a cold air intake. in case you haven't searched, a 94-97 Honda Accord cold air intake fits our cars as well as many short ram intakes that are on eBay. Just search "elantra" on eBay motors and you will find some short ram intakes as you go through the pages.
As for exhaust goes, There are a few companies that offer catbacks but honestly, most people buy a muffler of their choice and get a muffler shop to do a catback in either 2.25" or 2.50" piping. Exhaust shops will likely offer mandrel bent or crushed bent tubing. Mandrel bends will probably have more performance gains but crushed bent should show improvement over stock as well and be cheaper.
If you just do a header and no aftermarket or custom exhaust, performance gains will be very minimal. Our cars respond a lot better to forced induction. If you insist on going naturally aspirated and want the most amount of power within that route you should be willing to at least do full exhaust (muffler, exhaust piping, aftermarket cat or test pipe, and header), intake, aftermarket throttle body (or ported and polished a good amount), intake manifold the same as throttle body, Some aftermarket pulleys, cam gear and sprocket, and some good fuel tuning and dyno time. Even more can be done but then we're talking some dough.
Basically all this stuff costs a crapload! By the time you went all naturally aspirated, you probably could have an awesome turbo or supercharger setup, (that of which I'm not going to begin to explain, you're just going to have to search) just dong a header and no custom exhaust though, youre pretty much wasting your money.

i agree start with a Cold Air Intake or the catback exhaust before installing headers

I'd do exhaust, header and intake as that is the basics. I currently only have an Accord CAI. If you're not that worried about performance you shouldn't worry about doing a header without a full exhaust. It seems that most headers cause a cel (check engine light) to appear. If you just want a good sound from your car i'd highly recommend (sic?) just an exhaust and intake.
In the audio department: Make sure you buy at least 4 ohm subs and buy an amp that will allow you to run at a 2 ohm load. If you can get lower the better. Personally i'd rather have 2 ohm subs ran at a 0 or 1 ohm load. I currently have two 12" 8 ohm Fosgate subs powered by a Pioneer amp running at a 4 ohm load and it sounds like a big pile of crap. I will very soon be selling this setup because it just sucks! I once had an Accent with an Orion amp and a 12" competition ( I don't remember the name of the sub but it was good ) sub and it literally sounded 3x better than my current setup.
