If you have an Alpine SC kit on your car you might want to check your idler pulleys. I put a new timing belt on my Beta II yesterday and discovered that both of the idler pulleys on my Alpine supercharger kit had rough bearings and one had lots of side play in it. Took the bearings out and big surprise, they were made in China, chalk another one up for Alpine. Replaced them with some SKF bearings, I refuse to put Chinese bearings in anything, just asking for trouble if you do. Glad it was time for the timing belt and I found them before one of them fell apart on the road.

Hey Larry, do you have a link to the bearing mfg or a part number? The bearings on my idler pulleys are squeaking like a son of a gun!

The bearing number is 6301RS. I got mine from a bearing supply, IBT.

** Update **

This worked like a charm. I replaced both bearings and now I don't have the "squeak...squeak...squeak..." pulley bearing noise at idle. It was embarassing, especially since it was louder outside the car than normal due to the open hood scoop.

The funny thing is that only one of the two idler pulleys had snap-in retainer rings installed. I'll have to get one sometime to replace the missing one. Good ol' Alpine assembly... sheesh!
