: TCS and Tire Size relation??

Hi,

I'm trying to sell 195/70/14 Michelin Arctic Alpine winter tires on steelies that was originally used on sonata and used on 2001 Elantra VE for last winter. (since it's from sonata, the size is slightly off for elantra) It's about 0.536" (1.36cm) taller than original size (195/60/15), which within the acceptible diffrence.
I have a guy interested in it but he's concerned that the size difference will matter alot and he asked the dealer about it and the dealer told him since his GT has TCS.."my dealer says that even that minor size difference
might cause problems for the TCS (traction control) system on our GT,
since it relies on very precise revolution information from each
wheel"

I don't think it would matter too much unless the size is off a lot, since when you go +1 or +2 size rims, it can't be exactly same as OEM tire size anyways. And I never heard it causing any problems for TSC in any cars. well, that's my opinion.

Any thoughts on this?

Is that 2 wheels and rims or 4? If it's two then TCS may have a problem, but with all four the same it will not be a problem.

If he'll be running those tires on all four wheels, no problem.

However, running studded (or studless) snow tires on the front and something like high performance summer tires on the rear will seriously mess up both your handling and may be too drastic of a difference for the ABS/TCS program and hardware to handle.

Even if he'll be running a pair of 195/60R15 snow tires on one axle and those on the other, a slight tire size shouldn't affect it as long as both tires on each axle are the same. However, the tire design could. So if he'll be running those tires on one axle and other good snow tires on the other, he should be OK.

The rumor that different tires on each axle will mess up your ABS and TCS is a holdover from the old days of mechanically-set ABS/TCS proportioning between axles (which I believe General Moron Company still uses).

The TCS system on the Elantra XDs is a more expensive electronic (Bosch, I believe) system that biases the braking based on feedback from individual wheel sensors that detect each wheel's speed independently.

There shouldn't be an issue with either the ABS or TCS systems unless you have drastically different types of tires on each axle. You shouldn't run significantly different tire designs on each axle due to the hampering of cornering and other performance issues, and if the tires are totally different you still might run into a problem of maximum proportioning of the front to rear braking TCS / ABS hardware control. For example Mixing touring and performance tires shouldn't affect it.

It's matched set of 4 tires (winter, studless).
So, shouldn't be a problem. As I thought so.
