This is what I have been thinking of...

Whatever turbo I get is going to be a water-cooled unit, possible a T-25. Normally the coolant is taken from the cars cooling system. This bothers me because the coolant is already hot from cooling the engine and passing it through the turbo would only make things worse. I came up with a completely separate cooling system with a 1L Aluminium Overflow can, an electric pump and an oil cooler attached to the radiator. The coolant is taken from the can, passed through the cooler into the pump, to the turbo and back into the can. The cooling system seems to never get much above 30 deg Celsius. Thus reducing the chance of cooking the Berring.

Any thoughts???

good idea. I suggested a similar setup about a year ago.. :)

the difference is that I suggested a completely stand-alone OILING system.....

but it just seems like your water cooling system will not be better than running through the stock coolant since it has the capacity to cool the liquid just as good or better and the bearings wont burn at that temperature anyway.....

the bearing life is more dependent on the oiling system than the cooling system anyway.... that is why I suggested a stand-alone oiling system instead..........

that makes good sense too, I should look into that if I want to do this right.

lol I was also thinking of doing that but didn't know if that was a method that is commonly used, deffinetly something to take into consideration.

I agree, it is not something that i have ever seen done to any car, or even a race car.

I just thought up the idea along with dozens of other ideas that most people dont like... lol

:)

but, this could work quite well...

if you hook up a pressure switch to the main pump line that goes from the pump to the turbo... you could then wire in a relay to it that hooks up to a red LED in the dash... if the pump stops working or the pressure drops for some reason, the led light will turn ON, and you know that you have to shut down !!

sweet :) lol

If i remember correctly, there were a few Porsches that ran this kind of oil setup, but just heard it in passing. Might want to start looking there

Im just gonna get a better radiator.

the stock radiator has more than enough cooling capacity to keep a small turbo cool...

dude, dont bother with upgrading the rad......... save the $$ and put it into dyno tuning or a bigger turbo... lol
