Here is the OBX Crank Pulley install with pics.

Remove the dust cover on the passengers side... just a small part that covers the belts...
Loosen the tensioners for the alternator and the a/c compressor.
Using some sort of impact device, remove the crank pulley bolt.

Comparison of stock pulley vs obx pulley...

http://www.nitrousworld.com/pictures/P1010031_FordFasteRR_Crank_Pulley.JPG

Side by Side view.. the OBX unit is much smaller and does not have the dampening rubber material on it like the stock unit.

Use some grease or something on the inside of the pulley to let it slip on easier.
Place it on the crank as best you can, be sure to line up the notch PERFECTLY.

Using the impact device, hammer the bolt back down all the way. You can tell if you went all the way in because the copper colored plate behind the pulley will vibrate until its snugly tight...

slap on the new belts in this order:

A/C belt goes on first.. belt part # is: 5040315 - 4pk0800
then the alternator belt.. part # is: 5040330 - 4pk0840

Tighten the tensioners until the belts are nice and tight. (but not too tight)...

Also, here is a shot of the boxes for the belts that I used...

The end ! :)http://www.nitrousworld.com/pictures/P1010001_belt_packages.JPG

and how do you like it? I thought it was by far the best NA mod I had done.

I have not taken it for a spin yet..... I had a little problem with the upper alternator bracket bolt.. the damn thing snapped on me half way through the final step and I had to completely remove it and drill out the broken part.. then use an aftermarket nut/bolt to re-install it.

I guess i'll try it tomorrow morning and maybe do some gtech runs to see how it compares...

also, I reset the ecu.. but I know that it will run a little richer and wont make as much power until the ecu learns the new setup within a few days of driving.. then I know that I will feel a nice punch compared to the stock pulley..

:)

UPDATE

I just went out and did some test runs... it runs quite well so far.. I like the power boost it gives.. it is very noticable!

here are my g-tech run times...

i was trying all different launch rpms to see which one was better.. i still found that 3500 rpms was the best with a clutch dump..

7.33
7.46
7.59
7.30
7.50
7.55

1/4 mile test: 16.18 @ 88.9

The 1/4 mile test was with a soft chirp launch at about 3000 rpms. I just wanted to get a baseline... I know I can do much better with a CAI but remember i'm still using the stock intake airbox at this test...

FordFasteRR

i cant say if it fits the 04... I dont have one to compare to...

:(

and to answer the question about why you should get this pulley... because it adds 4 whp guaranteed.. thats like almost 8-10 hp at the crank.

On a definately related side note: this DIY has been added to the DIY Section.

Thanks for the support and good work Ford.

do you think I would be able to use this with a stereo system it's about 800 watts rms with two caps, I have a grounding kit, but I doubt that would make much of a difference, also my car is an auto if that helps
thanks

If you are worried about powering your stereo system, you whould add a 2nd battery, like a light weight dynabat or something.

as far as the charging capacity, i tested my car after the pulley (oops, forgot to test it before) but i had a consistent 14 volts ! thats actually very good considering the smaller pulley size ! :)

"Using the impact device, hammer the bolt back down all the way. You can tell if you went all the way in because the copper colored plate behind the pulley will vibrate until its snugly tight..."

Ford,

When i had installed an under drive pulley on my neon, it was stressed in the neon community to NOT hammer or force the crank bolt during the re-installation. Maybe there are differences in our cars, but the reasoning behind this was the shock applied to the bolt affected the clearances of the crank and connecting rod bearings. To install a pulley, it was recommended that one put it in the oven for about 20 mins. This would let the aluminum expand and make for an easier installation on the crank snout. Maybe there isnt any validity to what im saying, but it makes sense to me.

well, the impact wrench is safe to use... that is where the hammering comes from... not an actual hammer !!!!!!!!

besides, you cant turn the bolt with a hammer. lol

lol

Just clarifying for the fact that the installation was different from what i was taught.

and to add to that, the impact of an air / electric tool is rotary, so the worst thing that it can do is turn the crank....

no biggie there.

UPDATE:

I just wanted to add that during the process of adjusting the tensioner on the alternator, I broke the bracket support bolt...

I had to pull the alternator out and drill out the broken part, then I replaced the original bolt with a new bolt, 2 lock washers and a hex nut... here is the pic of the alternator & new bolt... you can see it is the shiny one on top..

Is this mod doable without an impact gun?
