: [XD] Should I go or Not
2003GT 10-15-2008, 10:09 PM Just like the title says. I have the chance to go up and Bracket Drag Sunday with my school and I am on the fence about if I should go or not. Its only $15 to race and its Bracket so Its not like the first run and I am out. Any ideas what I should Dial my XD to with the CAI. Also you think folding the mirrors would do anything? I talked to my teacher who used to be a Hyundai tech and he said that Running Higher Octane with a booster would work with my car because he said Hyundai's Spark is always trying to advance itself. He said I could possibly pick up like 5+ HP. I am a little skeptical but he did work on them for like 10 years.
Pete03GLS 10-15-2008, 10:11 PM lol folding mirrors? rofl that wont do anything.
if i were u, id get 1 practice run in, then decide wat ur gonna dial in at.
idk anything bout the octane tho.
slyderdai 10-15-2008, 10:12 PM Go! Have fun! Beat some Hondas! And get spanked by everyone else!
faraco3 10-15-2008, 10:15 PM It is bracket racing, you don't need to be running 10.4 seconds to win. You just have to dial in 15.3 and run 15.31 to win.
Keep the mirror where they are, and don't use the higher octane gas or booster.
smileymattj 10-15-2008, 10:17 PM Wax it so the air will glide off the body and make it streamline!
cbogg 10-15-2008, 10:17 PM remember, dial in too high, and you loose, find out what the average 1/8th mile times for an elantra (this is an 1/8th mile drag right?) and go there, no more no less
Pete03GLS 10-15-2008, 10:19 PM do a practice run like i told u to. then figure out your dial in.
are you automatic or 5spd? bracket racing shud b easy if ur in an automatic.
cbogg 10-15-2008, 10:30 PM do a practice run like i told u to. then figure out your dial in.
are you automatic or 5spd? bracket racing shud b easy if ur in an automatic.
You're not gonna get a dead on dial in with just one practice run. Just so you know.
Pete03GLS 10-15-2008, 10:45 PM ur gonna b damn close with an automatic tho. thats y i asked.
Give it a shot, I ran my elantra in the drags and won/lost against my friends golf...then recently ran the 240 which is near stock against a LOT of stuff.
It's a great time, whats the worst that can happen? haha
slyderdai 10-15-2008, 10:51 PM Give it a shot, I ran my elantra in the drags and won/lost against my friends golf...then recently ran the 240 which is near stock against a LOT of stuff.

The worst that could happen is that you realize that you drive a elantra!
The worst that could happen is that you realize that you drive a elantra!
Oh it sucks when that kicks in...trust me...
cbogg 10-15-2008, 11:20 PM Or, being that it IS an elantra of unknown lineage, it could just drop parts wherever it feels the need.
slyderdai 10-15-2008, 11:21 PM Oh it sucks when that kicks in...trust me...
yeah I know! But there is something gratifying about stomping a civic hatches face in that get me all warm iand fuzzy.
cbogg 10-15-2008, 11:24 PM yeah I know! But there is something gratifying about stomping a civic hatches face in that get me all warm iand fuzzy.
But did you tell him you were racing first? Was the dude even in his car.....
slyderdai 10-15-2008, 11:30 PM But did you tell him you were racing first? Was the dude even in his car.....
LOL Yeah it was a member of the car club I'm in he wasn't happy at all. Neither was the ZC swapped CRX fella.
Most of the honda's here are bubblebacks that are turbo'd or with some crazy *** swap in them.
But back on topic, just run man. It's pretty awesome, and even if you don't win you'll have fun...and if you do win, well start bragging. HARD
evan938 10-16-2008, 12:02 AM while i dont think i can attribute my best times to it, when i ran the 15.297 run, i had put premium gas in my tank. also had the tire pressure around 22-23psi (probably could have gone lower), but i had a **** load more mods
Cypher 10-16-2008, 06:54 AM I always ran with regular and never did anything special on track days.
Vampyrate 10-16-2008, 08:42 AM think of it this way, you aren't running on pinks and if something goes wrong, its a hyundai so most of the civic and accord parts from other drivers there should fix it :)
Keyan 10-16-2008, 09:04 AM if its a manual, dial in 16.5
if its automatic, dial in 17.1
NovaResource 10-16-2008, 10:44 AM Just like the title says. I have the chance to go up and Bracket Drag Sunday with my school and I am on the fence about if I should go or not.
Yes you should go. You will have a blast.
Its only $15 to race and its Bracket so Its not like the first run and I am out. Any ideas what I should Dial my XD to with the CAI.
You get a few practice runs. After that you will have a good idea of how your car will run. Things like altitude, tract temp, air temp and traction have a big affect on ET so there is no way to guess without practice runs. And if you have an automatic, leave it in drive to be more consistent.
Also you think folding the mirrors would do anything?
No. You won't see any gains from that.
Higher octane and booster are a waste of money. You will not see any measurable gains from them.
HAVE FUN!!!
2003GT 10-16-2008, 03:27 PM Ok Thanks Guys for all the Response. I signed up today and am ready to go. I was thinking last night about Taking my seats out and chopping my Exhaust off. :D Also I was wondering what the Tire Pressure should be. Unfortunately its a Auto. I have been Practicing Launches though. I hold it to like 2500 then let off and floor it. I asked my teacher and he said I would be better leaving it in 3rd, No? I figured it would keep it winding out instead of shifting into overdrive. I am almost positive its a 1/4 mile race. Also I find it hard to believe a Civic is slower then 15. I will get some Pics hopefully and maybe a slip. Also whats the best way to do the staging burn? My teacher said there is a Bleach pit and locking the e-brake should work. Any other advice? Thanks
BTW I will be up at Epping N.H. on Sunday with the school so if anybody is heading up let me know.
Don't bother doing the burn pit, your not making enough power to even bother. Plus your tires will probably be warm enough from the drive.
Also you do have to drive home with those tires.
I haven't had an auto in a long while...but if you leave it in 3rd it'll just lock out O/D like you said, but if its an 1/8th, you won't see 4th regardless.
BUT. Best of luck man! Crush faces.
Pete03GLS 10-16-2008, 11:10 PM u probably wont even get to 4th, even on a 1/4 mile.
u can get right up near 100mph in 3rd... and chances r u probably wont see 100 in a 1/4 mile.
so leave it in third.
or... if u want u can try to manually shift it, but for brackets, id just leave it in 3rd and worry about how ur gonna launch.
Don't manual shift it. You'll deep fry the tranny, ESPECIALLY if you don't have a trans-cooler.
2003GT 10-17-2008, 03:44 PM HAHAHAHAHA Deep Fried Tranny. :D Yes I need to drive home on those tires. Also What is the stall limit on my car. I plan on Leaving in 3rd and running like that. Also what should my tires be like 28psi? Also When is the best time to reset the Ecu before the 1hr drive or right before we get ready to head into the stage area.
Just leave it in third, you'll be fine. Tires, IDK that one, and reset the ECU right before you head into the stage area.
2003GT 10-17-2008, 07:24 PM Ok. I am at 1/4 tank and I should make it near there on that. I think I am going to try to put in a few gallons of 93 in to see what happens. My teacher said that the spark will advance itself to make it worth the while. He was a Hyundai Tech and drives a Pink Accent. :D
Its not about being fast, its about being close to what you dialed.
And what's with the stall? If you put your lever in third, it will start in first and will not shift to fourth.
2003GT 10-17-2008, 10:49 PM The Stall Speed is the speed at which you want to hold the revs at so when it turns green your already there. Kinda like spooling a turbo.
CornbreadXD 10-17-2008, 11:17 PM i'd also suggest removing your subs to get some weight out and taking out the spare tire while you run. I have to take the 280z out once i get it running w/o being held together by duct tape and super glue

I thought about constant rpm produced when being in a higher gear for lauching (torque converter).
Go own thoses ricers for us, would ya
Keyan 10-18-2008, 12:50 AM stall speed is the highest rpm the torque converter can hold before locking together. press your foot on the brake and then floor it. the RPMs it holds is your stall speed. do not do it for mroe than a few seconds at a time, it exponentially increases the temperature of the fluid you will start melting things if you do it for extended (read: more than like 30 seconds) periods of time. I think the fluids heats up like 17 degrees a second or something like that?

oh, thats good to know.
am i gonna get an airbag light if i take out my passenger seat?
2003GT 10-18-2008, 06:06 PM HAHAHAHAHA. I took the subs out tonight. I will pull my tire out also. What is the stall speed. I had it at like 2000 and the car started moving. I think Around that will work.
Pete03GLS 10-18-2008, 06:08 PM u shud b able to go past 2,000. i kno i did, without it moving.. but 2K - 2.5K shud b perfect so u dont get too much wheel spin.
2003GT 10-20-2008, 02:24 PM Woooohooooo. I ran 17.3 and 17.2 as being my lowest. Couldn't beat 79.55MPH. Friends civic was running 18.+ and he said because it didn't have V-tech. More to come. I have pics but cable is at other comp.

17's huh? This is why my car will probably never see a strip, I'd make a pass, see my numbers, hang my head, and go watch all those neons running high 15's lol.
CornbreadXD 10-20-2008, 02:35 PM I'd like to run my 280z against my elantra
2003GT 10-20-2008, 04:08 PM I did some NASTY one tire Fire though. :D Also I have the Mod bug now. I wan to go faster. Next is Getting rid of one of the Cats in the Manifold, and getting a Cat back. I want to get a REALLY Cheap Header also. Car 414. http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk82/2003GT_Elantra/Picture001.jpg

Good job. Hope you had fun.
2003GT 10-20-2008, 09:14 PM Ohh I did. I cant wait to do some work and go back. The best part was everyone seeing that is not that slow. I ran a Second slower then the V6 sang and a half second slower then the 5-Speed Celica. I would have liked to go 16.7 or so but we were hitting a good headwind.
slyderdai 10-20-2008, 09:19 PM I want to get a REALLY Cheap Header also. Car 414.
If you have a secondary mode of transportation I'd trade you my header for your stock exhaust manifold. (how many miles are on the car??) Just pay shipping. and I pay shipping.
Pete03GLS 10-20-2008, 09:22 PM did u launch? or just hit the gas when it turned green?
2003GT 10-20-2008, 09:22 PM 30400 this is my Primary. I think there is one for sale for $100. Then maybe we can cut a deal. I am one of those kids who like to keep all the old **** off my car. I just cant let it go. Plus I cant drive to school open head. Although it would be bad ***. Launched. Second that 3rd yellow came on I was to the floor. Already had it at two grand. That 19 second run I was in the wrong lane and it was so wet that I couldn't hook up. I spun all of first gear into second.
Pete03GLS 10-20-2008, 09:25 PM ohh lol wat kind of wheels/tires do u have??

Ok well if you want to call dibs on it you get first shot at it. When I get the OEM piece i'll let it go mega cheap.

Pete03GLS 10-20-2008, 09:36 PM ok ya me2, for now.
my only hopes for a faster time, are, header and exhaust. and weight reduction.

Probably less than half of that
cobase 10-21-2008, 01:03 AM Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the automatic transmission wouldn't shift into 4th or lock the torque converter during a drag race scenario, so there's no difference between "3" and "D," until you're engine braking after the finish line.
2003GT 10-23-2008, 03:29 PM It might not Shift into 4 but you can still Launch it Found three more Slips I will post them right up. Sly. I will Pm you. HERE They Are http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk82/2003GT_Elantra/Picture002.jpg

2003GT 10-24-2008, 05:28 PM Not bad for an Auto With just a CAI. I would have loved to go 16. What did you do to get 15.8?
