recently I put an accord cai on and felt that I lost low end (my car being an auto), so I think I am going to take the intake off and put the stock intake back on, so what could I do to the car to get more power while keeping the stock intake and exhaust on,I have a ground kit on already, also would getting a K&N panel filter do anything
thanks guys
ps my car is an auto

Well... there isn't much to do. You can install the stock airbox w/o the resonator & snorkel. And then get the K&N panel filter.

Also, you could always try a short ram intake setup which may give you a little better low-end. You can do that quick & easy if you mount a cone filter directly off the stock plastic elbow coming from the throttle body.

For my auto '04, I think I'll try a full OBX pulley set, but have them powdercoated black to keep a more warranty friendly appearance, and I'll add an Amsoil panel filter. I love the characteristics of the stock powerband, I'd never sacrifice that off the line zip for slightly more peak horsepower, a louder intake noise, and possible warranty hassles.

I had a K&N panel filter that seemed to make a slight difference. I also recommend removing most of the plastic on the bottom of the airbox -- basically leaving the rectangular frame where the filter sits intact, but trimming out all but a bit of the plastic on the bottom of the clamshellto hold the filter frame area to the three bolts on the bottom of the airbox. From the top it looks stock, but I noticed an increase in low end torque over a CAI. I think it had more torque with the trimmed air box and the K&N filter than with the short ram I'm currently running.

Using my neon experience, it was known that you could gain 1 free HP by removing the rubber gasket along the cowl of the hood. In theory, it would let heat escape the engine cabin making it more efficient. The elantra not only has a gasket along the cowl (back of the engine bay), but a gasket on the front (underneath) the hood.

dont remove the front one... that will keep dirt out of there... you can remove the rear one... thas what I did about 9 months ago.. Didnt notice anything....... :)

I just pulled the snorkel and resonator out of my car and it feels like I have more low-end now... I left the pipe from the filter box to the fender on though, so it will pull cold air in that way... I'm gonna order a K&N later today!

What about a bored IM and BBTB or would that be a waste with the stock setup, also is there anything else I could do to build up the low end power maybe pulleys
I forgot to mention it's a 04 auto

How about a positive displacement supercharger? :D

It's hard to make much significant improvement to low-end power with N/A mods.

I had the bored IM and no bbtb. i loved it. i also had a short ram and a little exhaust. trust me you want to do this.

James, va beach's setup seems good...our cars already breathe good and too much air kills 'em (like the KSPEC Airram intake being overkill and losing power)....also a bigger throttle body would probably not be best thing cause it will lean out the car more (at least I would think it would)...I cleaned up the IM in my GM 2.8l V6 (my old buick) and it definitely made a significant difference (and that car was only rated at 125 HP)

Just polishing/removing slag (and maybe port matching) from the intake manifold and smoothing out the throttle body would probably give you noticable gains....and if you can get a spare IM, you could do it yourself in your spare time. Oh yeah...the pulleys might be a good idea too.

I will be happy to port the IM if you ship it to me and pay for shipping back + $50 for my trouble / grinding bits...

:)

IF carbonman is still doing this service, then Please contact him instead... since he is the originator of the ported manifold mod. :)

for that price it is WELL worth it. trust me on this one. or you can ask ford, or guess. they both have them too.

that sounds good i'll see if I can get a spare IM, what about a 4-2-1 header with the stock exhaust would that do anything ? I was also thinking of having a rear exhaust section made from the last flange on the stock exhaust before the muffler, that would be bolt on (always want it so I can go back) would that help anything,
sorry about throwing some many ideas out, I just don't want to spend any money on things that would cause me to lose power
thanks James

i have the exact same exhaust that ford has on his car. (i was trying to mirror it) its a stock 1.7L exhaust from a tib. i have the header and midpipe. i was hoping to sell this locally but for the right price i would ship it.

vabeach, where do you pick up those KDM exhaust pieces (the 1.8l manifolds, tiburon midpipes, etc) ???

I got mine at the junk yard out of a 1.8L elantra for $14. :)

i traded mine from a friend with a tib getting headers. didn't cost me much. some day if you want to take a trip and meet me 1/2 way you can have them. just pay for my gas. that applys to everyone here. i will drive up to about 200 miles one way.

I made my CAI into a SRI wow what a diffrence it deffinitly has more low end power, I am waiting on a pulley set to replace all the stock pulleys, an adjustable cam gear would'nt do anything for a cvvt motor would it ?

here's an idea to keep low end- fabricate a 2" MANDREL BENT low restriction exhaust system. it wont be a huge size difference over stock, but the removal of the stock press bends and mufflers/etc will definetely help.

cam gears would help, but I'd say that your best bet is just not to mess with it, since the gains are "expensive" since you have to tune them on a dyno.

a big bore throttle body probably wouldnt help your cause, but I'd definetely reccomend "working" on the stock one-there are some improvements to be had with stock bore.

get a intake manifold it gave me 14 wtorque

=P one of our guys tried the air ram with no such luck...it even got dubbed the "air-scam" after that.
