Any recommendations? I have looked a 4 XD's which are decent in price and I know the car inside and out. I have about $2500 to spend and I'm not looking for anything fancy. Just reliable and affordably maintained. But nothing I could get into modding. That's the big thing!

There are lots and lots of cars for sale around here in that range. But I don't know anything other than Hyundai's.
I could actually go to about 4 grand But I don't want to.

There is a guy next door at work trying to sell me his 03 mazda 3 for 3400 (it's what he has to pay off the loan.)

Contact geraldleroy, on this site.

He's selling his '02 Pewter XD, manual tranny, Magnaflow Exhaust, lowered, 17s, Tibby CAI, Astrel lip kit, etc. etc., for either 2k or 2.5k. I'm trying to find the message he sent me right now, and I'll get back to you with the right amount in a few minutes.

Nevermind, he's asking $5k for it, but it has super low miles, and I mean super dedupeter low miles. Contact him anyway, he may work with you.

Market here must suck then. You'd never find anything newer than 1999 for less than $3k here. $2500 you're looking at like 1995

If you are looking for low mileage Full size trucks this is the place to be. I could buy any number of 2000-2004 dodges, chevy's and Ford's for around 5k.

Here is my short list:

2004 (I think) Kia rio 5 3000.00
Nissan 200 ex (it's kinda sporty good gas mileage has 28k miles on it) $2200.00
1999 Vw Jetta 1800.00 High miles But it's in great shape had fun driving it.
1999 Mitsubishi Galant 1800.00 High miles but Same as jetta I liked it
2000 J2 Elantra 87k on it 2450.00

2003 Mazda Protege 54k on it 2800.00 (The wife really likes this one But it's a 5 speed and she doesn't know how to drive it But she's willing to learn)

Tommy

Id say a toss up between the Jetta and the Protege.

Go for the Protege if its a 2.0l.

I showed the wife the pictures and the email I got from Rich, She is in love and I think we have a winner! I just paid off y credit card so I might be using it to cover the $1000.00 I'm short for it. It'll stimulate the economy and my wife so it's a win win!

No sh!t! Yes, that is a hell of a deal right there. That is easily an $8,000 car on any dealer's lot. You are getting quite a good deal for that.

I thought so. I drove it today at lunch, and It handled very well. I took it on the twisties out near the lake and it hugged the corners much better than the xd ever did. I don't care for the ABS but it did come in handy on the final turn at the top of the ridge. LOL! But all in all I was impressed with the car and the color is pretty awesome.

As much as I love the XD/XD2 platform, it will never be as good as the Mazda3. I know, that's heresy, but it's the damn truth. Bigger motor, more power, and better suspension.

Tommy

^friend of mine has one, 2006 i think.

He's got the flappy paddle automatic and its gutless compared to my elantra. we've gone up to the mountains together and he cant ever keep up, even with a lowered suspension, bigger sway bars ect. He holds ok in the turns with the elantra, but coming out of a corner, its got nothing.

BColeman
02-11-2009, 10:53 PM
Wow, really, he can't keep up? I used to try and pick them to race against at the drag strip. 6 out of 10 times they'd win. I've never "played" with one on the road though, might be interesting.

Tommy

Was it an auto or a manual?

His is an automatic, and its definatly slower than my 5spd.

I couldn't tell you. It was all white with black molding. I'm going to assume it was a manual transmission. I never really paid attention to it, more to the tree and the finish line. I just got really tired of racing against Hondas, I wanted more of a challenge you know. But I will say this, my reaction time improved racing that guy, all the way down to 0.013. And I never went above 0.050 after that. So, the fact that he beat me is okay, cause it was good practice.
