Ok, so I read that with a little trimming, Grand Am side skirts will fit our cars. Will the fit my '04 hatch? Also, what year G.A. are we talking.... 89-91 maybe? :D
according to TNT4ME, these fit the 4 door, dont know about anything else

JRC,
Thanks for the photos..but a little different. On the GLS the side skirts fit just fine from the 95 Pontiac Grand Am. Cost depends on Junkyard, mine were $5. Here's the post:

Enjoy!
I am finally going to be off this thursday, not planning on working O/T and not have any in laws, or anything else to deal with, so I am gonna take a trip down to Nevada pic a part and look around and see if I can actually find these and see how much they want for them. Hey TNT, did you remove the mud flaps on your XD to put your sides on, or did you leave them in place and work around them?? Also, what holds these on the Pontiac, is it bolts, screws, or clips??
By the way, has anyone seen the new Toyota Corolla S models? Wonder if the side skirts from them and the rear bumper add on pieces will fit the XD. They are similar in size...just curious.....
TNT4ME

2Bit,
I took off the flaps. Two screws tin the front, two in the back. Then Automotive GOOP on the top edge of the skirt sides (taped to hold for a couple hours, no clips). This way, if you take them back off, the GOOP comes off rather easy too. GOOP has elasticity when it comes off like silicone, but also holds amazing (tested at 115 MPH, no prob). I have since changed to other skirts but those were great for my needs at the time.
Hint: make sure you get ones with depth from the SE model, not the flat ones. And when you take them off, Take out the screws and pull from the bottom edge.
Hope this helps...

this might be an alternative from the KDM style sides...they look pretty much the same....i might have to look into this one....definitely good find

Thanks for all of the help... I was also wondering if anyone has tried a front lip/valance from a BMW M3...
TNT4ME
10-11-2004, 03:44 AM
THE BMW / Kamei (sp?) ones did not work out for me. The sides on the BMW don't wrap far enough, are sqaured off more and it looks funny. Also, if you go and read that whole thread you can see all the experimental ones that were tried from varios poeple.

As for side skirt fit -- I believe that the rocker panels on the XD sedan and GT are identical, as are the doors from the windowsill down. So anything that fits the sides of a sedan will fit the GT.
I'll have to check the junkyard for a '95 Grand Am SE next weekend when I'm at the Stoystown PA junkyard...

spike any pics yet? are they going to be OEM style?
Went to 2 junkyards today here in Vegas. Found lots of Grand Ams, only one SE model, and someone had already beat me to the sideskirts.
Isnt the Cavalier the same body? wouldn't the Z24 side skirts from a Cavalier fit???
SuperGLS
10-14-2004, 04:08 PM
Well, the Cav is the same as the Sunfire, but I think they all use the same chassis? Right? Hmm, either way, any side skirt that is the same length of the Grand Am ones (or ones made for our cars) will work pretty much.
TNT4ME
10-14-2004, 04:22 PM
would have to say, grap a tape measure and go for it. Just not flat ones, they are kinda eewww Let us know the results please.
I thought I had a tape measure with me, and when I looked for it, I had left it at home. :(
The sunfire is smaller than the Grand Am I am sure, so I doubt they fit. Anyway after thinking about it, the Z24 Cavalier is a 2 door car, and I think the inward curve on the bottom of the Z24 skirts would be off for the 4 Elantra doors, and they have a big Z24 emblem on the rear of them. It was just a thought. I just went out and measured the Xd, and it comes up 74/75 inches.

so aftermarket side skirts for the grand am should work as well right? Because I can't find any junkyards around here with grand am sides! :(
yevRPS
10-14-2004, 07:24 PM
if the length is right with a some skill and time you can make them fit i'm sure. it won't be a simple bolt on but much less work then trying to make side skirts from other cars fit or trying to mold your own.
Hey TNT, I have a stupid question 4 you. When you put the sideskirts on, did they interfere with the jack points? I mean you can still get the jack under there and jack the car up, right??
Here is another dumb question. Since I cant find any of the Grand Am skirts, do you still have them, and do you want to sell them?? If so, how much??
hyunelan2
10-15-2004, 05:40 PM
My GA sideskirts do not interfere with the 'jack points' in any way, although there are other suitable points under the car if they did.
You're going to go broke on shipping those. Seriously, there's gotta be a grand am around somewhere. I paid $20 for both skirts, the front valance, and rear trim. Shipping will run you more than that. Are you sure you know what you're looking for? (I know you're not an idiot) The 'skirts' are nothing more than lower molding on the GA, it's not like they're bodykit parts or anything. Every GA has it in one form or another.
EDIT, here's a pic where you can see mine (dark gray pieces). There are several types out there that look different, but these are what I pulled off in the junkyard.
http://www.nitrousworld.com/pictures/800IMG_1416.jpg
Yea, I know what I am looking for. I am looking for the skirts like in the pic on the blue GA posted earlier in the thread or that TNT has posted in the archives.
I have searched the web, and cant find them anywhere, and been to the 2 junkyards. I just dont want to be looking for 6 months or more. If he still has them, and isnt using them because he put on some others like he said, I just wanted to know if he would sell them. TNT if you changed them out, what did you put on in their place?
TNT4ME
10-16-2004, 04:35 AM
Let me check on shipping and if I still have them. Should not cost me that much. Like Hyunelan2 said there are alot around. But, if you are having that much trouble finding them, I will send you mine. No, I will not charge and arm and leg. $20 plus shipping should be cool, they are light and already painted silver. I will find out Monday, if you change your mind by then, just PM me.
They don't interfere with the jack points. I bought and Astrel kit off ebay, but I have universal sides that I just took off. Pics you say, here:

Just curious, Where did you get the universal ones, and how much? The GA ones would work for me too, so I am interested in them if you have them.
Has anyone tried any other side skirts like for a Accord, Civic, Toyota Corolla, Nissan Sentra??????? They seem to be the most available off ebay

Besides the Grand Am, has anyone else tried side skirts from other cars like Civic, Accord, Taurus, Corolla S model, Nissan, ?????
hyunelan2
10-19-2004, 01:05 PM
My rear is from the accord (mid 90's). I remember measureing the sides, but I didn't take them so something must have been off with those.
It's pretty sad. Most of the body kits have sides but they are way too expensive. It seems that if you want any aftermarket parts you have to have Tib or a f""ing Honda.
I joined the Grand Am club for the sole purpose of posting in the parts wanted section: 1995 Grand Am SE side skirts....
UPDATE: 21 OCTOBER 2004 :
Went to three junkyards here in Vegas today looking for these.
First junkyard: Had a 1995 GA SE 4 door. As I approached the car on the driver side, I seen it still had the skirt, so I thought I was cool. As I got closer, I saw that the car had been creamed on the right side, and the skirt was no longer there.
Second Junkyard: Had several GA's, 2 1997's which wont fit, 2 2002's which wont fit, one 1996 that wont fit, and one 1994 which measured the correct length, but it had no shape or definition to it, it was just a straight piece of moulding, and did not look like the one TNT had pictured on his car.
Third Junkyard: Struck out.
Oh Yea, did I mention that IF I would have found them, they were $50 for each side, or 100 bucks for a pair ? Seems the junk yard part books lists these pieces as being 106 bucks each from the Dealer, so they charge half.

wow those sides look nice on TNT's car.
haha this thread is a prime example of why it sucks to have a hyundai. expensive *** parts force us to go to junkyards for parts from OTHER CARS, we're scavengers:). hell there's a race shop 1/2mile away from my house but only sells JDM parts, i dont even dare go in the parking lot lolz.
TNT4ME

I don't think it sucks to have my Hyundai. We just have to have more imagination than most. Even though I get fustrated, I like being different than others. I went to a club meet recently for all cars. People were amazed at my car. All the honda's looked like they were from a cookie cutter, VW had about 5 variations except one person who did her own kit completely custom. Main topics of discussion were her car and mine. It was a great feeling knowing that people saw what a Hyundai could look like with a little effort. BTW, my car now looks different, In the spring it will be ready for COTM. I am also going to hoard the DYI's I have planned this winter and post how they were done in the spring. The wheels are turning, the money is there, now I just have to implement.
Thanks for the compliments on the sides, they are $100 here and are universal.

if you have the money, buy a different car... it makes sense if you are really concerned about appearance. an elantra is a poor choice for cusomizing. all aftermarket products are marked up 10 times that of any other car (korean shipping costs are a *****)... like eyelines for xd? 100-150 or something... i see eyelines for most other cars around 10 bucks... crap quality body kits cost over a grand... good quality kits for other cars? around 500, you can get eurathane kits for a grand...

Nah,
you see, this is going to be mt daughters starter car in a cuople years. This spring, if all goes well, I will be getting my wife a truck. But the XD will be the one modded.
anyway...
I did not find GA sides for 2bit yet (got 2 more places to call/check nearby). I did find some Ford Taurus SHO ones though. Really cool looking. I'm going with tape and camera later today (pics later). Yes, just another sides option. I can't help it, the ideas just keep rollin' rollin' rollin'......
hmmm....this Taurus thing might be promising, can't wait to see a pic. What year SHO are you looking at??? Are you sure it is a SHO? I saw a Taurus SES model that I have been looking at..........good luck on the GA ones. I know they are a real ***** to find from my experience here in Vegas..
You know junkyards all say 92-95 GA's are all the same, but I swear the ones on the 94 I saw did not look anything at all like the ones you had in your pic Tim.

97-98 Ford Taurus SHO. Yes, I'm sure. There is an SES here, the sides are straighter. Please, if you have the time, go measure those ones on the SES.
ok, i wont be off till thursday, and i have to take the car in to the dealer to replace the right front headlight cause it is fogging up on me, but after that, i should be free...will see what i come up with...

Curiosity has the best of me! Back in 5 min! I will edit this post after I measure myneighbors SES. Hope he doesn't call the cops....
real nice guy,
Our sides are 189cm, the SES ones are 195 (1998). So there is a 6cm or ca 2" difference. I could deal with this by trimming in the rear portion. Then i would still be able to use the front mud "rail" for lack of a better term. ideas glore.
Don't get me wrong, I like my Astrel ones, but they are kinda "plain".
Edit 10/26:
The SHO ones are too big 10CM too long. Just FYI
The SES ones are too big to.
So at this point I am keeping the universal ones...

I got a pair of sideskirts from what was marked as a '97 Grand Am SE 4 door at a local junkyard here (they're even red, just about the same color as my Rally Red XD GT!). They're perhaps 1/2" longer overall than the side of the Elantra, but with a few washers at either end, they'll fit. They look like the ones in Hyunelan2's picture -- not much shape, just a than a smooth curved roll top to bottom.
Just thought people might appreciate knowing that there's another year out there to steal skirts from.
I haven't put them on yet; I may mount them lower than Hyunelan2 did... we'll see.
hyunelan2
11-08-2004, 11:09 AM
If you can get them mounted lower, do it... it'll look better. I mouned mine higher so that I could affix the top and bottom of the 'skirt' with 3M moulding tape. I would suggest using that stuff. I had no problems with them popping from March-October. And I removed them without a problem, and no paint damage.
I may try to get mine a little lower next season. Good luck.
kylemorg
11-08-2004, 11:27 AM
Thanks for the suggestion about the 3M tape; I was wondering what people had tried.
I started first placing them higher like you did, Hyundelan2; perhaps even higher, and then I noticed that if I mount them lower they'll fit up against the groove on the underside of the rocker panels about 1.5" out from the welded seam where the rocker panels meet the floorpan. That way I can make sure they're straight all the way front to back.
For my first attempt, I'm going to bolt them in at the front and rear in the wheel well arches and where the black plastic piece is at the bottom of the car in front of the rear arch. Then I'm going to try clear silicone caulk/adhesive on the top and bottom edges of the sideskirts to hold them on along the space between the wheel wells.
I may try to trim the front mudflaps to fit around the new sideskirts, too. I'll have to see how hard that is; it might be easier/cheaper to get a cheap set of flat flaps instead of messing up my factory ones.
hyunelan2
11-08-2004, 11:47 AM
I tried bolting them in, but the curve on the skirt made them stick out too far from the side of the car... maybe it will fit better with a '97. Also, there doesn't appear to be any way to make them work with the mudflaps without extensive trimming/cutting.
Also note, that I cut the skirt's wrap around (the part that goes into the wheel well) once I knew that I wouldn't be using the bolt-on method. I cut it about even with where the black part started in the wheel well - so it basically wraps around the body color then stops.
TNT4ME
11-08-2004, 12:10 PM
Hyunelan2,
Sounds from the descrition that you cut off the end pieces? Not really sure on that. One suggestion That I have is this, sand the last inch or so on the top bevel so it meets our countour perfect. The Grand am has a tiny bit a flair outward before the wheel well. I sanded that part and the contour was perfect to wrap around the corner and mount. At work now, I will post a pic from home in a bit. A picture is worth a thousand words.
hyunelan2
11-08-2004, 12:47 PM
Remember, My G/A skirts were different than yours. I did not cut off the ends, I just shortened (trimmed) the amount that wrapped into the wheel well by about 3/4".
TNT4ME
11-08-2004, 01:23 PM
aaahhhh. I see said the blind man. With the bulky ones it would not work to slide them down.
Well, got the 95 Grand Am SE sides installed this morning. Thanks again Tim, they make a big difference in the looks of the car. They fit really good, like they belong there, and the shop matched the paint perfectly.
The body shop used 3m double sided tape along the top edge, 2 screws on each end, and 3 screws on the underside of the moulding to hold it in place on the car. All in all, I am very very pleased.
Only downside I can see to this is that if you wear dark pants, they will rub on the skirts when you get in so you will have dirty pants, but what the hell, as long as the car looks good!!!! http://www.nitrousworld.com/pictures/happy-dancinddude.gif

Wow, I didn't think you'd be able to ship them for that cheap. When you say 'install' did they bondo mold them on, or just screw/stick them on? Depending on what they did, $70 was either a deal, or slightly overpriced.
