Nice looking car but I do not like the station wagon back. Why are new car manufacturers doing this?

I think companies have to compete with each other in these markets, so every car company is begining to come out w/ the wagon back again...Mini Vans are out, no one likes the look of them, so cars like the Spectra 5 are the new "soccer mom" vehicles, but also appeal visually to the younger consumers who like the sporty look and feel....and are farily cheap and easy to customize..assuming aftermarket products are made.

Have you ever packed for a trip or moved with a hatchback? THEY ARE AWESOME!!! I drove a 81 VW Rabbit (Diesel 5-speed baby!) for a while, and packed everything but my furnature to move to college... They are very useful and what I really wanted when I bought my XD (of course the GT came out a couple months later... I'm still bitter about that) Hatchbacks have been popular in Europe and Asia for years, it's only in the US where they fell out or fashon for a while.

Oh.... and they're cheaper than a SUV, with the same functionality... how many people take their RAV4's, CRV's and Sante Fe's farther off road than the front yard anyway...

From the looks of this one and reviews I've read, a Spectra5 may be my next car....

Reminds me of the Toyota Matrix/Pontiac Vibe.

I've seen pics for a while, so it's not very exciting for me. With that said, I think I like the sedan better. It's good looking though.

Have you measured that strut bar yet to see if will fit our cars?

I really like that car, if our local Kia dealer didn't suck so bad I would think about getting this one. I always wanted an Elantra wagon for the wife.

yeah i agree that having a HB makes living a lot easier when you have stuff to haul around. everytime my main car was a sedan i would get frustrated when i'd go to buy something that would take an hour to try to cram inside. what's strange is that sedans are a much bigger phenomenon here in the US than in any other part of the world, where hatchbacks and wagons are more popular. i guess it may be because so many people here only use their cars to commute and don't necessarily need them to haul stuff around.

I definitely like the Elantra HBs better than the matrix and other wagon type HBs. I never really used my trunk, I have always had speakers back there.

I get what your saying on the storage - instead of a small suv you could opt for a HB!

It's definitely an improvement for Korean cars. It has a "Corolla" look to it. I still think the 01-03 XD hatch has a unique look, although that look was somewhat copied from Saab. I love the fact that despite living in Southern California, I only see about 1-2 XD hatches in a month's time.

And for those skeptics about hatches, they just DO NOT understand the utility in a hatch. A few Xmases ago we bought a 9 foot artificial tree that came in a box about 6 foot long or so. Another woman who bought the same tree had one of those huge Dodge Econovans. She had trouble fitting the box into her van while I easily slid mine in. I wanted to laugh...lol.

drove one before they were available, it's very nice. I personally like it. The top of the line trim level comes with 17's, sunroof, mp3 player, ABS and leather. pretty good price too, $23,000 CND.

I stopped by my Kia dealership today to check out the strut tower brace on the manual Spectra5. All they had were automatics! :wtf:
