What is the benefit to doing this mod?
Also will this void the warranty?

faster shifts, less clutch slippage, better feel, don't notice the difference if your not racing it.

the only way it would void is if they can prove that A. you did this mod. B. something actually broke. which i can't see anything that would. might increase pressure plate/clutch contact if you shift hard all the time.

i did this mod recently with a friend and what it basically does is transform our trannys into a regular tranny. when you press the clutch, the rpms drop off alot faster than normal, no more annoying " rpm float", take-off is easier too because hydraulic fluid can move through the slave cylinder at a faster rate making it easier to hook up clutch and fly wheel. i think.

Not true, you will still notice the difference in every day driving. The shifts will not be as smooth.

The purpose of the valve plate is to reduce the amount of fluid that transfers in order to make the shifts smoother. To make the shifts smoother, they had to make them slower by adding the spring and plate.

I have had this done for almost 15k miles without any problems yet and I drive hard. At best thoug, I would say it might possible wear your clutch down faster. However, it might also preserve it longer since it is no longer slipping when you shift. Either way, a shop would have to pull you clutch release cylinder apart to find out you did it. This isn't something they would normally do unless it was the release cylinder they were fixing.

its a great mod....this should make your clutch last longer because its not slipping...that is unless your dropping the clutch all the time

Would this modification be recommended if you already have an aftermarket clutch and light weight flywheel?

yup....it will have the same affect...it wont slip as much...it wont necessarily be noticable because the aftermarket clutch is grabbing that much more...but it is still beneficial

I disagree with this statement. I find that shifts are smoother after the mod, since the clutch is MUCH more predictable. The valve is a hindrance for anyone who knows how ot drive manual transmission properly.

I know how to drive a manual just fine and I will agree with you saying shifts are more predictable, but you are incorrect in saying smoother. The shifts definately grab harder (similar to an upgraded clutch) which makes it less smooth and gives it more sports car like shifts.

Sorry, but I don't want my car shifting smoothly anyways. If I did, I would have left it alone or bought a more luxory car.

Not if you know how to modulate the clutch pedal. The valve is a crutch that allows reasonably smooth shifts with poor technique. A skilled driver can produce very smooth shifts when desired. The difference is that without the valve, you have control over how aggressively the clutch grabs. With it, you don't.

^ Yep. I think what Autobot is getting at is that if you get lazy and make some poor shifts, the clutch will be less forgiving. I have noticed that too. But like other people have said it's still a nice mod to do since it gives you more control, and may prolong the life of your clutch.
