Judging from the shape of its head, it's a non-venomous snake. In which case, killing it was unnecessary. My dad's the same way....he doesn't care what kind of snake it is..he'll kill it in a heartbeat. What a shame.

Um, moccasin's are poisonous. He coiled and tried to strike several times before I got him. He was guarding the shovel, I got him with a floor scraper.

Agreed! There is no diamond shape to its head. Well there may have been before is was tromped on. None the less snakes are great animals and they make good pets, I have owned two of them. One python and one boa, each had its own little quirks but I still trusted each to wrap around my neck.

This one was poisonous, I checked the fangs after it was dead. Before I killed it, it also had the tell-tale big body to thin tail characteristic. This is the second poisonous snake I have killed in the last 2 weeks, the first one was a rattler. I do not kill the non-poisonous ones, but I do take care of the poisonous ones because of my kids.

:abovelol: i know what you mean my neighbor had a snake skin in his kitchen, and the person that lives next to him had a snake skin on his front door , there were alot of snake incounters in my backyard and they all ended with a shovel going down :)

My grandmother had a house built in Florida, and a couple days after she moved in she found a scorpion next to her bed! Never knew there were scorpions in FL!

We have those up here in the midwest too. A lady I work with got bit by one last year, it took her 3 months to get back to normal from it.

Ontario is where it's at, we have some rattlers along the shores of Lake Ontario down and into the southern areas by Lake Erie, but basically there's nothing else venomous! Winter does have some benefits besides snowy parking lot hooliganism.

good kill. Now mount it and hang it on your garage door as a warning to all the other snakes.

I have found that the only thing in ontario that is sucking the life out of me is...well nothing, but winters are really cold in Petawawa.

Not really, when I severed his head he was coiled so I also got part of his body. One thing that a lot of people don't realize is the head actually stays alive long after you cut it off. This one was still trying to strike at me 10 minutes after I cut his head off.
