Ok so I went to the dealership today to get my recall done and an oil change and whatnot. So while I'm there I ask the guy if he would put a tib sway bar on my car and how much it would cost me. He told me that it could possibly void my warranty and since I extended my bumper to bumper warranty that it would be a bad idea. So I'm like, well they are hyundai parts so why would it mess up the warranty? And he said that if something goes wrong anywhere near the sway bar and they go to fix it and see that there is a tib sway bar in there that they could blame that and it wouldn't be covered under any warranty. Then he asked if I have a GT and I said no, so he said that even if I were to get the tib sway bar that it wouldn't make much difference because my car will never handle 'like a sports car'.

So my question is this, is it true that it won't make much of a difference in the handling? Because I've seen a lot of posts where people say it makes a huge difference.
My second question is if it is worth it, does anybody know of any place in the Philly area that I could get it done? I'm not planning to get it done right away because of money issues but I was kinda hoping the dealership would just do it.

btw I was at carousel hyundai on 202 in west chester.

Don't pay to get it done it will take you 20 mins to do it yourself and you probably won't even need to jack up the car...if not I am 15mins east of philly and I can do it for you for a few beers.

The big difference you see will be the body roll elimination. True, you're not going to see flat sports car handling with only a sway bar, but it does make a HUGE difference. It's not too hard to do either.

The sway bar is unquestionably, unequivocally worth it. The nerve that guy had to say otherwise is inconceivable!

yes def worth it and if you knows how your car "feels" you'll notice it. my roommate who has drive my car maybe 3-4 times noticed the change for the better. and yes don't pay to get it done. also, i'm willing to bet that if anything ever goes wrong and the sway bar is to blame whoever is working on the car won't be able to tell that it's a larger swaybar unless they really really know their parts. the endlinks might be a giveaway but i've heard of gt's and gls's that had metal endlicks on the stock.

He's a paid Hyundai rep, who in my opinion HATE to see people that know more than them at the dealership. Especially since you're a female! Don't ask Hyundai to do anything for you...not even oil changes..they are cranky and give you a line of BS every time!

Amen to all of the above. Avoid the dealer if you can, its a very rare dealer employee who understands never mind appreciates that people like us exist. They will try to talk you out of doing anything to your car that they don't charge you for. And yes the sway bar makes a difference you can feel, that and a better set of tires are probably the best thing you can do to an XD.

yea, when i went to the tib meet this past weekend, i was buying a tib sway bar off a guy...i had it in my trunk, and i thought "maybe i should put this on w/ the plastic endlinks and see how it feels..." well, me and one other tib owner jacked it up, took the wheels off, took stock sway bar off, put new one in, wheels back on, back down, all in about 30 min...this was in the parking lot of a park...only reason it took 30 min instead of 20, is because we couldnt find a 12mm socket (holds the bushings on to the car) so we were trying it with pliers...got one side off before someone found the 12mm...then it took about 5 min to finish...im takin it fairly easy on the stock endlinks, until i get the metal ones sent to me, early next week...then im gonna really try it out...i have gotten the back end loose a couple times...very big improvement...best mod i have done yet

The guys at the dealership I go to are really nice though. After he told me all that he said I should get a CAI because it won't mess up the warranty at all and he said it's a good mod to do. The reason why I go there to get oil changes is because they do 2 free ones a year. However the first guy I asked about it was like, "well, the sway bar is in the back of the car..." and then the other guy came out and I was like, yeah, I'll ask him about it thanks. lol

yeah and if the endlink bolts are rusted then it takes way longer.........i have metal endlinks on my car but ended up cutting them and putting much larger ones from autozone

It took me 10 minutes to do the job on a new car without the end link mod.

It took about a half hour for me to do Paki's car, largely because it was a little older and the end link nuts were harder to get off, and his rims made clearance a little tighter.

Damn--

IMO, when a topic has been beaten to death, then people should just not answer it and point to the aswer or post a link. However in this case She had an issue with her Dealer, she had questions about that and in turn questions about the upgrade itself. She even commented on the numerous posts about the positive feedback from the upgrade. The issue is, Her dealer is a D0uch3-Bag and she was comming to US for re-assurace. If i knew nothing at all, i would trust the dealer first and complete strangers ( us in this forum ) 2nd. You cant fault the girl for making sure shes spending her money wisely.

Am i going nuts or did a post "Disappear"....

Yeah, I deleted yamaha's post because I thought it was uncalled for. He posted again, and I locked this thread. Sorry guys.
