Day pics?

I don't think he did a projector retrofit so the day pics would be useless.

I didn't do a projector type, I don't like the way the light cuts off. I had a 2001 Tiburon and hated the headlights on that car.

This mod is worth every penny!

How much did it cost for the parts?

AvanteXD-CDN

My friend got them for me off eBay for about $200 USD.

but think about the cars coming toward you. I would say you wanna aim as low as you can :)

Sammy: what did you do to reduce glare on your HID conversion?

sammy21c
10-17-2004, 07:31 AM
oh, I have Audi projector which has cut off line. But my cousin who has RSX put aftermarket HID and he just had to aim all the way down, still bright enough.

Sammy: do you have pics of your projectors installed in he headlamp assembly?

sammy21c

I cut the hole with dremel(?) tool, has 2 screw each on projector.
Aiming? Zip tied... LOL

couple of questions you can hopefully answer for me...

can you take a pic of the beams up close? (like up on the wall?)

are those bulbs D2R?

Iam actually insterested in doing a comparison to see if the D2R bulbs have a better cutoff line in our stock halogen then reg aftermarket HID bulbs. Thanks in advance if you respond to this :)

I saw an XG350 yesterday and it looked like it had HID. Do they??

AvanteXD-CDN
10-18-2004, 02:47 PM
Sammy's HID bulbs are more likely the D2S bulbs, they are for projectors and D2R are for Reflector style headlamps.

XG350 do not have HID's they do have projector style headlamps.

the projector cutoff is dangerous.
When I drive throgh totally dark area,
I can't see anything above cutoff. I mean nothing.
Oh, and XG have HID option in Korea. But not projector HID tho.

So Sammy, in a way the non-projector style displays more light, but has slight more glare than the projector style
Oh yea, it looks like you didnt install a shroud for you headlights when you installed the projectors.
I have a spair of BMW X5 projectors but no shrouds...maybe I should do the way you did..

Alex: thanks for the props..:) betcha you can never ever drive a car with no HIDs..heh heh

I also did a Projector retro. Here are some pics of my retro. These are Audi A6 ECE Hella projectors and 4300K bulbs.

yes, DJ hellfire was who I talked before. What I remember, he didn't even have to move the battery or cut the washer resovoir and as you see, better looking, clean cutoff line. I guess he's HID is more newer than mine. I guess mine is 4100k which is from 01 Audi.

Mine are from an 01 A6 as well. They are just the european spec A6 projectors. 4100K and 4300K are the same thing, both OEM. Some people just say 4100 and some just say 4300. Sometimes I'll say one or the other! :D

This is off topic, but something I noticed lately about you Sammy is that your English is getting a lot better than when I first became a member. I don't mean any offense, just noticed the progress!

DJ Hellfire

It's just some PVC pipe painted silver. Some guy was selling them on Ebay.

Time to go find some Audi or newer BMW Lights I guess. They are quite common here, so hopefully I can get them cheap. You have inspired me to make this my winter project. I would really appreciate some better pics on how you wired them up. DJ Hellfire, since your are close (euro spec) can you give a red wire to red wire description on what you did? Already in a DYI somewhere? No, I did not search...

Thanks

I didn't cut off my H7 bulb socket. So I can still connect H7 bulbs if I ever wanted to. I put quick disconnect connectors on the + and - of the ballast input and plugged that into the H7 connector. I'm at work now so I'll get pics tonight.

Hellfire: I think I bought the same shrouds, but they are too large for my X5 projectors.

I might go thru Sammy's route of installing projectors, but I really dont want to move the battery or cut the windshield washer filler tube.

Sammy, how did you mount your projectors to your headlight housing?

sammy21c
10-20-2004, 02:12 AM
there is 2 screw hole on projector, so I drilled 2 holes each housing and got 4 long screw to fit.
Again, aimed and holded with Ziptie.
Don't forget to aim Highbeam before doing all the job.

What do you guys think about 97-99 Tiburon projector headlights? Would that work good as for projector lamps for a conversion?

If you got the same exact shrouds as me, they fit the X5's better than they fit my A6's. I came across some X5's after I already did my retro and had some extra shrouds laying around. I test fitted them and they fit perfect. You just have to put them in the right way. Otherwise, you can dremel out some of the inside of the shroud to make them fit. See?:

If you mean taking the stock projector out and putting an HID projector in then yes, I believe it should work. You just have to make sure the new projector is the right size.

I got a couple headlamps from a 97-99 Tiburon and I plan on using them for my HID projector conversion.

You got to love the perks of working at a Hyundai dealership with a bodyshop :D

Here are some pic of the extracation of the projector lamps.

please make sure those hids are aimed correctly... some jackass in a honda civic around here put hids in with no projectors, aimed straight ahead. when in opposing lane it's like high beams on twice as bright in your face.
