Being fat is not a disability, the sad thing is she's taking one of those when actual crippled people can't afford them.

That's pathetic. I was at walmart one time, and couldn't get past this woman in the aisle and had to go down another one. I do not mean that I couldn't get past her, her cart, her husband, and her kids. I mean I couldn't get past her.

I've seen fat people take handicapped spots while disabled veterans park somewhere further.

I think that might be the best quote in this thread.:abovelol:
fatty's grow everywhere not just america.

We just have more per capita because we have plenty of food available and it's relatively cheap compared to other nations.

I never said there weren't fat people else where, just that for some reason as a whole we seem to accept it more. Other countries generally have smaller portions and have more family time and what not, so as to support better eating habits. Not like here where most people just shove whatever they can down their gullet without any thoughts as to what it is, and how bad it is for them.

It's relational to the size of the US. I watched a show a few years back about living in suburbia apposed to living in the city. When you live in the city you walk/bike more because everything is close/you don't have a car. City dwellers tend to buy a little bit of groceries every day on the way home in local shops rather than the big once a week stock up at the big box stores. Since they're not driving as much, no need to pop in to your local drive thu.
Also, I dunno about everybody else, but my parents are the kids of the depression generation. They were taught to "eat everything on your plate, don't waste anything". So if their plate is loaded up, they eat it because that's what they were taught, and subsequently taught us kids. If you grow up like that, it's hard to break the habit.
Then consider the bombardment of advertising we get from the media.
And let's be honest, who would choose a plate of tofu over a super-sized whopper value meal? Another issue is cost... fruits and veggies cost a lot more than a box of mac 'n' cheese or a packet of ramen. When you're broke, you cant afford to be the healthiest eater. Then of course we could talk about our meat.... ugh.

It's cost and effort as well, after a long day at work it is very tempting just to grab a big mac on the way home instead of coming home thawing something and cooking it for an hour.

Yes, but you can go through the very same drive-thru that gives you that big mac, and order a Grilled Chicken Salad with light dressing too.
There's a reason there are no "healthy" fast food places. It's not that healthy food can't be fast, it's that healthy food won't sell well enough to be a good business model.

yep.. one of my faves is the bk broiler (it has a new name now) but basically it's a grilled chicken breast on a burger bun. but mang, it's a lot more expensive than a whopper. Anymore, I go home and make my own chicken burgers, much cheaper.

I think it's the food we've been exposed to, Western society has been horribly fed for years and it's only been that last decade or so that people even cared enough to ask for salads on fast food menus.
Growing up a McDicks visit was a weekly if not twice a week event and my mom would say it was OK cause there was veggies on the burger, if you grow up on that food it's very hard to find other stuff like grilled chicken instead of fried tasty... it's a tough cycle to break.

There are so many things to say in this thread I don't know what to do.
If fat people are crafty enough to get handicap stickers then I don't care if they park in the handicap spots while "disabled vets" park somewhere further. In fact I hate the whole idea of handicap parking but I won't get into that.
Mike is right about healthy fast food places, they won't work because they won't sell. And life is all about money (even if you like to pretend it's not).
Also, I always eat all the food on my plate and I'm not fat (I don't even exercise either).
Anyone seen those "half ton man" shows they have on TLC? They are funny.

I agree, it's our diet here in America. Compared to most countries, our food is basically junk food and the chips and stuff that we get at the convenience store are another level of junk food.

Six pack abs becomes lesser of a reality everytime I glance at food. I eat less than probably anyone in my family but still....

i see people every day who tuck their fat stomach into their pants. F*CK THAT SH!T. seriously, i dont understand how people can let themselves get that way and then dont do a goddamn thing about it. fat people seriously piss me off, and i mean irate. if it is one of the (very)few people who have a disorder (other then lazy ***** syndrome) that makes them that way, then i feel for them, but other then that, no excuses. get off your scooter and walk to BK
