Well, I've finally actually started my whole tail light project. After the oven technique didn't work when I tried a month or so ago, I figured I'd go with the "Hit the light with a hammer" technique and it worked pretty well. The only problem is that there are parts of the lense stuck around the side of the assembly that are just too hard to get out with a hammer and screwdriver. I talked with TBurton and he suggested that I use a Dremel to clean it up some, the only problem is that I don't have a Dremel and I won't be able to buy one til July probably (being poor is eww). I'll also need to use the Dremel to make the cover smaller because they are designed to set on top of the current lense and not actually a replacement. So, anyway, here are some pics of the one light opened up and with the cover lying over top of it.

I have a mini (10,000rpms) rechargable Dremel I got from Walmart. 30 bucks. Amazing buy. And nice job on the lights, btw.

It looks like we both have the same project going on. The main difference is you have both your tails, I'm still in need on the pass. one. Anyway, I'm thinking of putting a red refective thing (not sure what yet) inside somewhere to keep it legal. I thought maybe one of those pieces of 'sticky reflective material' you get from the hardware store to put on you mailbox, garage door, etc. I don't know about that yet completely. I've got a dremel, and will prob. use the hit-with-hammer method as well. Any pointers on that?

I was also thinking about something red on the inside... I'm not sure yet. I was thinking of just lightly spraying the chrome red, but that's pretty irreversable. Like I said, I won't be continuing until July, so if you get to it before then keep us updated in this post.

Pointers huh? Be careful. Close your eyes so the broken pieces don't kill you. Wear gloves so your hands don't get cut up like mine. Try not to scratch up the chrome'ness on the inside by getting too reckless.
