View Full Version : ECU reset for SRI?

The only performance mod I have is a Weapon-R SRI (installed a couple months ago without the reset) and I was wondering is it worth for me to do the ECU reset (for better tuning). If yes, should i use this site's DIY:
http://www.ukhcc.co.uk/Knowledge_base/reset_ecu.htm
If no, what N/A mods are worth ECU resetting?
Also does resetting the ECU with high octane in the tank help?

I personally reset my ECU about every month because from what I've read, the ECU can fall into "open loop" mode where it'll stop calculating new values and keeps using a set pattern....so you won't see any improvements.

Reset your ECU for everything you do.

dont bother, if you've had your sri on for this long, then the ecu has already adjusted to compensate for the air flow differentials. :)

K, and so how would i go about this? How do you personally reset your ecu?
Following the link i posted it goes:
1: Warm up car.
2: Turn off car, disconnect negative from battery. Wait 5 min.
3: Turn on car, press down the foot brake for 20 second. (does the e-brake affect this?)
4: Turn off car, reconnect negative to battery.
5: Drive Fast for better performance.
Also I have an automatic if that affects anything. Since cars in Europe are mostly manual and this is a UK site.

I don't believe that it will fully compensate for modifications, even over time. I know it seems like it should, but after I had the TSB for the lag done, it did not act differently. I made no other modifications for several thousand miles. Then I reset the ecu by disconnecting the battery when I made a radio modification. I of course didn't have the lag right away because of the reset, but after several thousand more miles before another reset, it was basically gone. Now I know this is not a controlled experiment so there may be some other variables. I would suggest doing at least the ecu fuse reset anyway. It is easy and does about a 70-80% reset. Doing it by the battery yields me 34mpg for one tank. Then I'm back to 26.4mpg. I don't get that from the ecu fuse reset.

No, because pushing your foot on the brake with the key in the on position (even tho the battery is disconnected) makes the brakelights come on, and since there is no raw power going though, it basically kills the leftover power in your system so you know the ecu is totally powerless.

Doesn't matter.

What do you mean by ECU fuse reset??

I am going to have to do that ive never done it

Under the hood is a "fuse" box behind the battery. There is a 20 or 30 amp fuse in there for the ECU. Look under the box cover for exactly which one. Pull the fuse and let the vehicle sit for 15-30 minutes. That will reset the ECU and CEL's too.

Well I figured it meant the actual fuse but I never heard that... I might try it...

ilan told me to reset it once a month

I reset the ecu by pulling the fuse from the fuse box inside the car behind the tray to the left of the steering wheel. It's the first fuse in the second row. I take it out when I park and put it in when I'm on my way again. That way, nothing else resets except the ECU. Don't know how effective it is compared to the other ways though. If you're getting 34mpg for a tank I might as well do that everytime I fill up. I'm gonna try it today.

yeah, i get over 420miles per tank (about 12 gals on fill up) on the battery reset (disconnect the neg).
