hey everyone, i just bought a straight through racing muffler, and i want my GT to sound really loud and obnoxous. I read all these post about if you should leave the stock exaust resonator on or take it off. I just bought a CAI, so that will aid in sound quality a little, but I disagree with most of you. There is nothing cooler to me than the sound of a high pitched pocket rocket coming down the street, my body is sleeper style, except for the gloss black painted stock upper grill i have on. So, leave the resonator, or say hello to straight pipe??? Remember, try to give me an answer that will help my wants out of the car. Thanks fellow GT'ers... :)

If you want to be loud and obnoxious then remove the resonator. If you want to be louder then get a catback. Louder than that? Get headers to go with the catback.

Make sure to keep it in gear as long as possible:), but stick it in neutral when coming up to a cop:). Just to let you know, the exhaust noise from a stock elantra isnt all that high-pitched, its actually has a pretty low growl. Rice4ever:)

whats up? i have 2k2xd with CAI, header, 1 high flow cat, 2.25" ss pipe, and a reactive racing muffler with a 4" tip. i would say it is pretty loud. MORE hp after 4000 rpm's. cel light prob though. too rich?

The cell is because of the header, your O2 sensor is seeing dirty exhaust since the the missing cat is not cleaning the exhaust gases.

Best thing to do would be to cut out the resonator and the cat. Along with the racing muffler, you'll be as loud as you want, and because you'll have almost no backpressure, you'll be slower than a stock automatic XD ;0)
