: Manual Transmission 2011 Elantras?

Hi, I'm new here. I've been trying for the last month or so to buy a 2011 Elantra GLS with the 6 speed manual transmission. The dealers in the Portland/Vancouver area have had almost no standard transmission cars. I'm looking for one with the Popular Equipment Package which gets the AC, cruise control, 16" wheels, etc. Unfortunately Hyundai doesn't allow ordering the Preferred Equipment package with the standard transmission, so I can't get the steering wheel mounted audio controls, cloth door panel inserts and allow wheels on the car.
Do any of you have standard transmission 2011 Elantras? I'm curious as to what kind of mileage the standards get. The actual figures I've seen for the automatics seem a little disappointing to me. My 2003 Corolla gets around 30 to 32 in urban/suburban use and 40-45 mpg on the highway. Consumer Reports says their automatic Elantra test car averaged 29 mpg overall and 39 mpg on the highway. Hopefully a manual transmission Elantra can do better than that. Any experiences with 2011 standard tranny cars here?

I have been working with a dealer for about a month looking for a 2011 Elantra GLS with manual transmission. No luck at all, so today I called Hyundai directly and was told that no manuals have yet been built. They will start in May. Has anyone else heard that?

Welcome to EXD peace!

The Build Your Own seems to indicate that the manual is available.

However, the number of manuals they will be building is pretty low I imagine (they don't sell that well, and since 2007ish the numbers have been fairly low). However, Hyundai would know best. What number did you call?

Thank you so much. I called the dealer twice and have not gotten a response yet. Maybe they were released on a limited basis? Hyundai customer service read me the month-old bulletin that stated that the maunals wouldn't be available til May.

They'll available but you'll have to check a lot of dealers to find one. I checked within 200 miles of my location and could not find one to test drive. I ended up buying the auto and have been very satisfied with it. I see your in Baltimore, check with Ourisman in Laurel, MD to see if they have one or could get you one.

manuals are prob coming from Korea like the rare colors. The May date is likely an est of when AL will start making them here.

But thats just guessing.

I am also looking for a Manual with the popular package. Bored of driving a Automatic

I called up the customer relationship number and she pretty much said the same thing. ..." they are expecting to begin production of the 2011 manual elantra in May 2011"

I am in the pac NW and there is not a single dealer having a manual elantra.
Some dealer websites list them on their online inventory but when you call them up , they dont have one.
One dealer said that Hyundai is not going to make the manual. other said that he wont do a factory order.. thats a bunch of baloney.. typical tricks the dealer play to entice you to come and buy what is on their lot. :nono:

if you are serious about the Manual, then i would say wait.
seems like there is a consistent response from Hyundai saying that the manual will be in May 2011...
I am going to wait and watch...

I am waiting too.. I am in the Seattle area. the Manuals are not easily available yet.
I called up Hyundai customer relations and they said they will start making them in may 2011.
I have seen some on the dealer inventories and they seems to have VINs that indicate that they are made in Korea. However I dont believe the inventories are accurate. When i call them up, they said they dont have any.
maybe the cust care person was refering to the Alabama plant.

I have a Korean Elantra and the VIN begins with a 'K'. I can't remember what letter it was that indicated Alabama made.

I looked for a manual for about 3 weeks in my area (Pittsburgh) and couldn't find any. I see Canadians have quite a few, but there aren't many in the states yet. Just call a lot of dealers and hope you get lucky!

if its that big a deal build a custom one on the site and have it sent to the dealer. i think its an additional 500$. but at the level of getting what you want instead of waiting, could be a 500$ bill well worth it

Manual is a dying art I'm afraid my friend. I wouldn't be shocked if within the next 5 years they're completely discontinued all together. Minus the paddle shifters in the sports cars.

Ah, they'll make them if we keep asking for them. I bought a manual as well. There were several in the local area here in Texas. As for gas mileage, the manual seems to have the ability to get better mileage than the automatic.

It also has the ability to get a lot less. Since you are the shifter you get to decide if you want to short shift or run it like a banshee.

Now, I've been able to obtain mileage readings of over 47.5mpg on long stretches of the highway at 60mph. It drops down significantly in city driving if I'm not careful (ie idle into every stop and launch off soft as a lamb).

Over the last week (since my last fillup with a mix of city and highway), I've been able to maintain an average of 37.8mph, but that's using all the hyper milling I could stand.

Doesn't mean I couldn't have done better, occasionally you just have open these things up and pass someone you know?

^and the ability to get much worse mileage too haha

Ugzz is right the gas millage is 100% dependent on the driver. I personally would just rather have the vehicle handle the shifts for me. I'm sure most people agree.

I found it very interesting that one dealer near me had a manual listed on the website but when I called about it, I was told that it was already sold. It stayed on the website almost a week after it was sold. I happened to drive by that same dealer last Sunday and saw a newly delivered Elantra manual, so I called first thing on Monday and took a test drive. They would not negotiate on the sticker price at all, so I left. And this car that I drove never appeared on the website at all. The VIN did indicate that it was built in Alabama, because the first digit was a '5'. Thank goodness I can wait for a car and don't need one today!

I had calls from couple of dealers saying that the 2012 elantra - manuals are on the way. Has anybody else heard anything on the 2012 elantra manuals? pricing info, features etc?

2012 will be the same as 2011, just with a different digit at the end of the end of the model year (except for the addition of the coupe).
