Saw this on Weapon-R's site. Ok, easy does it before the Weapon-R whipping stick comes out, lol. I know it is a touchy subject! They have the same pic under the new intake link for both the V6 & I4 Tibby. Probably a goof. I am wondering even if this one is for the V6, if we could get it to work. The pic looks like the proximity of the fuse box & battery are the same. Hmmm.....

that pic is for a v6 tib...

also, if you notice carefully... they did not clamp the lower MAF sensor coupling lol... silly advertisers...

Anyway, the box almost looks like its photochopped.... but I could be wrong... the parts image does not show the box itself....

be careful.

ditto that... the box looks photochopped as a mofo. Maybe it's real, but if it is that's a wierd picture.

I am replacing my stock airbox but putting a cone in it and using my dremel to cut a hole in the box. o_o Run some tube down to a home made scoop at the bottom of the car. ;)

True, it could possibly be a chop. I noticed they do not list a cold air box in their cold air box section for the tiburon. I guess thats why this caught my eye. Maybe its new, maybe its a fake...I dunno. It would be nice if something like this were available though. Hah, the Weapon-R contraversy continues...lol.

I Know there is a cold air box from Weapon - R because i remember them seeing it on a 02 tibby and a 03 tibby.

I'll look for the web site because i know i remember seeing it before.

There is no way to modify the stock intake box to house a cone unless you are really good with a dremel and bondo.

if you managed to stuff a cone inside of the stock airbox, you would be restricting it so much that you would not get any airflow into the cone itself...

Well, I finally got around to e-mailing Weapon-R about the boxes. The guy said that the intakes were the same, and that the cold air boxes would be ready in 2 or 3 months. So, I will have to keep an eye out since that would be the only thing from Weapon-R I would be interested in (box not intake). So yes, it does exist, just not for sale yet.....

i have always liked weapon r but the only thing is that i don't really think that will improve the speed that much because wouldn't the box get hot as well as the intake pipe does. I know they show us a temp on how much it is outside the box and inside but i still think that, that is still a lot of heat.

If you use some thermal wrap on it it should be okay

I think it would be good to just put a air box next to the battary then behind it

I just received an e-mail from Weapon R regarding the cold air boxes. They have them in stock now for either V6 or I4 Tib - so, there should be no problem with it fitting the XD. They sent me the installation instructions for it. For some reason, the pics did not come out of the word document file looking very good....oh well. I have found a couple sites selling it. One was like $120, the other was like $70 something, but w/ $20 shipping. I guess $100 is better than $120, lol.

I would not want the plexiglass top, personally....it is an "upgrade"

Isn't that glass/plastic cover simply going to let more heat in?

yeah and you couldn't seal it as well as you could with a welded aluminum piece...

I dunno, i have had similar ideas in the past, but it just seems like there would be so much heat surrounding the airbox that it would be definitely heating the air entering the box.

maybe not with aluminums heat dissipation, but i dunno if its worth a hundred bucks to find out...

shawn :)
