: Clock Problem
SCROOGE 11-26-2004, 04:19 AM As I turn the ignition on the clock will flash the time ( for a split second ) then nothing. The same thing happens when you turn the ignition off :( :(
I took the car for a drive and the clock wasn't working at first, then it was, so I reset the clock and it was fine for a while, then again nothing. After a while the clock was working but at the wrong time.

I have this problem too, but i've been too lazy to try fixing it.

Me too, I've even taking it apart and tried pushing the button thing on the circut board but it didn't work either. I thought mine was the only one broken. If I tried again in a day or so it would work without any problems. It's a weird problem.
mrhoaf 11-26-2004, 02:56 PM sounds like hyundai put defective/cheap switches in them... we'll have to look into how hard it would be to replace them.... i don't have anything else to do right now.....
I need to take my dash off to put my card holder in anyway....
ok.... here's a picture of what we have to work with....

ideas or suggestions?
Cyberz XD 11-27-2004, 08:23 PM Hmm, Don't really know because there are times were i can press the botton it will work and then the time will change and theres times were it wont.
JacksonJ 11-27-2004, 09:01 PM I've fiddled around with those black things on the rubber pad on the metal contacts and it didn't help.
That type of setup is exactly what Remote Controls buttons are. Maybe someone who knows remote control repairs might have a better idea. All I know is that those black buttons are some sort of conductor that allows the electricity to flow from one side of the contact to the other.
southpawboston 11-27-2004, 09:16 PM they're coated with a conductive carbon coating. if there's moisture or dirt that accumulates on them, they won't work as well. usually the contacts can be cleaned with a little WD-40 and that fixes them for awhile, but somehow the problems usually return later.
Cyberz XD 11-27-2004, 10:05 PM I tryed to see if it will change nothing, if you guys find a way to fix it let me know
JuMpMaN6235 11-27-2004, 10:17 PM I too have that clock problem, But its only for the Top button, the one for changing the Hour.... It will not work right after connecting the clock, but then like 5 hours later or even the next day it works.... Wierd and Very annoying problem, even pushing on it hard wont work
Cyberz XD 11-27-2004, 11:46 PM yea Same here jump i hate it even if i press hard nothing
Gman01 11-28-2004, 01:03 AM go to a junk yard and pick another one up it happened to me in my 01
XWRed5W3 11-29-2004, 12:35 AM I had the exact same problem in my 01.
Solution? Take it to the dealer - get a new clock put in under warranty. Or buy a new one if you don't have a warranty anymore. Problem solved.
mrhoaf 11-29-2004, 01:09 AM I'd rather fix it cheap or for free.... I haven't had much luck finding XD's in junkyards, and I'd be afraid one that was from a junkyard wouldn't be any better than what I have now. I can only imagine what the dealer wants for a new clock.
I'd appriciate it if people wouldn't just post "just buy a new one" or "just take it to the dealer to be replaced under warranty" all the time when people ask for help. Obviously, if that's the best course of action, then it's a fine suggestion. But too many times 3 people in a row say the same thing.... and not everybody is able to just go buy a new one.
If somebody has a suggestion on how I might fix, or at least improve the clock... I'd love to hear about it....
Cyberz XD 11-29-2004, 05:18 AM same here, i don't wont to have to spend money if i don't have to
JacksonJ 11-29-2004, 08:30 AM Hahaha, I just noticed that we :threadjac Scrooge's post.
Scrooge: I haven't heard of your problem but it almost sounds like a loose connection in the wiring.
JuMpMaN6235 11-29-2004, 12:41 PM yea, have you been disconnecting the clock lately? maybe you pulled a little too hard on the wires
5port 11-29-2004, 03:55 PM I have an 01 GT...25K miles.
I had the intermittent clock problem during the first year of ownership. Took the car to the dealer and service rep said they could reproduce my problem by sticking their hands behind the clock and pressing on the circuit board. They replaced the clock (in stock) and it hasnt been a problem since. If I had the clock assy out of the car and on a bench I would look for bad solder connections and resolder them.
On my 01 the buttons are hard to push. I've been getting by using my pinky nail on my right hand. Works every time!
XWRed5W3 11-30-2004, 01:00 AM Sorry if posting buy a new one bothered you - it wasn't my intention. I was just saying cause I had the exact same problem.
I would also try to resolder the wires if they were loose. Also, if you feel up to it, I suppose you could open up the clock and check the springs or whatever on the buttons - maybe they're out of place or just don't have the same resistance anymore.
SCROOGE 12-03-2004, 01:37 AM I haven't done any work on any of the wiring, it must just be a loose connection. I'll just have to take it to the dealer.
clarion 12-03-2004, 01:46 AM yeah just go to the dealer...thats what i did when i blew mine up...fixed it with no problem
felixr 12-03-2004, 09:32 AM ok first of all wow, two pages for a clock lol
second, 5port . . . 25k on an 01? you bastard! lol
thrid, i too have the clock problem . . .sometimes when i start the car it wont turn on.
it started with flashing, then now sometimes it just doesnt turn on. . . solution?
take your fist and center it carefully over the clock so you dont break the glass or anything and punch it once MAYBE twice . . it will come back on just fine . . works for me everytime
