I know, I know, I know, we've talked about this before, but I just want to get some up to date thoughts about which aftermarket brands everyone prefers.

Should I get some cheap ones from Advance Auto or is getting more expensive ones actually beneficial? This will be my first replacement set, my OEM ones have last about 31,000 miles, so that's pretty good.

Thoughts?

I use Bosch Microedge.

I just bought a set from Advanced AutoParts and I can't remember the damn name. But I do know that they have a Teflon coating on them. They work GREAT! $12 a piece.

I also use Bosch Microedge Excels, they are really good wiper blades. However, they do chatter in the winter, so you may want to consider a set of winter blades for the time being.

I used a Trico set on my Maxima and they worked great during the winter, they didn't chatter nor stick to the windshield. They should last you about 4-5 months, about as long as the winter season. The Bosch Microedge Excels are supposed to last an entire year.

okay, here's the deal. i agree that bosch micro edge are the best, but they don't sell just the refills (at least where i live). you have to buy the whole damn blade assembly, and they're like $10-12 EACH. but the next best blade is the anco something-or-other. and they sell refills for like $6 a PAIR. now, you may be thinking, i need two different sizes, so i have to buy two pairs of refills, right? WRONG. buy one pair, for the larger blade. use one as is for the driver's side, and then cut the other one down to the size needed for the passenger side. this way you've got a whole new set for $6 or less. they're almost as good as the bosch. and at $6, i can justify replacing them every few months, as soon as they begin to get streaky.

oh, and next time, do a search. ;)

Thanks for the input everyone. $12 a piece isn't too bad I don't think, but cheaper with almost the same quality is always a good thing.

Haha, that's why I put the little first paragraph.

I actually go the other route and buy cheaper blades. Anco SUCK, pass them by. For cheap blades, I usually get the Luxor blades from walmart. They work fairly well and cost like $5 a pair (refills directly fit OEM wipers). I change them in Spring and Fall so I always have a fresh set of wiper blades. I can't stand streak lines.

I went with the Bosch Micro Edge's. I'm going to put them on later, and next time it rains I'll report on what I think.

Thanks everyone.

Don't forget to add some RainX to your windshield for even better bad-weather visibility.

I also use the Bosch Micro Edge Excel, but just like someone said, it does chatter during the winter, even So Cal's "winter", which is not even that cold. I've always wanted to try the PIAA blade, but after using their headlights, although they generally make high quality products, it still doesn't justify for the outrageous prices. I belive the PIAA wipers are like $27 each.

I've had the Bosch Micro Edge wipers on for a few months, and they've been great. I'll be buying these from now on.

my biggest problem with most "winter" blades is that they are completely covered in rubber. sounds like a good idea, untill you're driving down the highway at XXMph (numbers removed to protect the innocent... um... I mean guilty...) and they have a tendancy to lift off the windshild and not wipe well at all......

To me, the cheap wipers aren't worth messing with. I've bought cheap ones that were worse than the ones i was replacing....

I wish that Bosch sold refill blades instead of having to replace everything. That would make it a better deal. I generally wait until Pep Boys offers some kind of incentive for the wipers, like buy a pair of wipers and get a $10 gift card. They last me about a year and I use my wipers pretty often, but the weather here is pretty moderate.

i need some new wipers too,i was thinking about getting those c/f like ones with the built in wing for more ''downforce'' on the window for better wipes.

one thing i dont like about them that it has a yellow blade, i think its a silicone type of blade

the size is 18" and 20" right

i got ones with the little wing... they were even silver to match the car. They looked good, but they sucked. Either the blade surface sucked, or the wing provided too much force (or likely both) and the wipers skipped badly..... they didn't last too long on the car....

Well, I got them on, and so far they work really well. I'll have to see as the winter progresses. I saw the all rubber covered winter ones and they were too eww for me, ha, so I skipped those.

Question though... I put them on but didn't use any of the extra little pieces that came with them (two with the drivers wiper and one with the passenger wiper). Was I suppose to? It seems like the wiper could just come off, but it didn't while I used them, so I think I'm ok.

Yes, 20" and 18" are correct. Part numbers 40820 and 40718 I think.

You should be ok. I believe you can fit it 2 different ways, but the best fitment for me has been without the use of the extra adapter. It just slips right on with the default adapter and I have never had any problem with it coming off.

The PIAA's cost about twice as much as the Bosch, but worth the money.

BlackElantraGT
11-29-2004, 04:36 PM
How long did they last? What exactly is so special about it compared to the Bosch? I just don't want to buy into the PIAA hype anymore. It's almost 3 times the cost of the Bosch here at around $27 per blade/wiper.

The wipers come with adapters to fit different types of vehicles, so you will usualy have extra parts.

I've been buying the Luxor ones for replacements for 4 years now. Always work good, and are cheap. Out here we only get a lot of rain between November and March, so they don't get used much the rest of the year, and they handle the heat (>100F) good, so that when there is unexpected rain they are in good condition. I had one set for two years.

The Piaa's silicon material apparently coats the windshield, doing the same thing that rain-X does, do a lesser degree.

I don't know if that's true, but it still worked without any streak for much longer than the Bosch ever did on my car.

After reading this thread I realized that my windsheild wipers were turning to crap. They made my windsheild all streaky and I couldn't see crap. So tonight I went out to pep boys and got those bosch microedge excel ones. The one size was actually on sale for 9.99, the other was 12.99, but holy crap what a difference it made. We are expecting a lot of rain tomorrow and it actually started a little on the way home and so I got a little preview of how they should work tomorrow and they were awesome. Thanks guys!

Yea every car should come with a bottle of RainX standard. That's better than magic.

I only use rainX, never / extremely rare where I use my wipers

BlackElantraGT

Rain X is a must. The first time I bought it I got the kind where you had to apply it to the windshield by hand. That worked awesome but I was too lazy to apply the film. Now I just buy the Rain X brand windshield washer fluid and use it often to coat and clean the windshield. It hardly rains here so that works out perfect for me.

Does anyone know what sizes Wipers are good for are window because i don't really remember what brand i have now when i replaced them but it doesn't really wipe at the ver ends of the wiper. It will wipe but at the ver end of it, it doesn't so do any of you know what brand to go with that will wipe the hole window like if they were stock.

I don't remember too well, but I believe one side was 20" and the other was 18". It's best to just check the book at the store. The Bosch Micro Edge excel works pretty well.

SuperGLS

At most Auto stores they have a little computer thing that you can use to check the part numbers for the various available wipers/blades they have. But yeah, it's 20" and 18" (like I mentioned above).

Ok,

I just got The PIAA Super Silicone wipers for christmas for the passenger side and the PIAA Super Sporza Silicone Wiper one with the WING that only comes for the driver side. OMG they are expensive. I will install them tonight and test it out tommorow. I drive on the Highway five days a week so I'll know for sure if there worth it. Plus its winter now and snowing alot so it's a really good test for the blades.

I reccommend the RainX washer fluid with de-icer.... it's the orange stuff... I used it last winter and am using it again this year. On top of the RainX goodness, you get a de-icer... I figured it would just keep me from having to scrap the frost off the windshiled, but I've noticed that it helps keep ice from forming at all on the windshild. There have been times that I've had to scrape the rest of the windows but the windshiled takes a quick wipe or brush to clear.

I hate that it costs almost $3.... but it sure is good stuff.....

I used to use that rainX windshield wiper stuff in my old car and it worked really well but with this car every time I take it in for service they fill up my fluids so I never get the chance to buy the stuff to put it in there! lol Oh well...

Hey Guys,
Today I bought those funky reflex wipers that are on the canadian tire commercial. So far they work really well. I've been having trouble with the bottom hinge on my conventional wipers getting frozen up and not cleaning the window. I was skeptical so I only bought the drivers side wiper, best that the girlfriend cant see whats going on anyway. It worked well today. I'll keep you up to date.

So, about 13,000 miles later my drivers side wiper isn't working as well anymore. I think I will change them again shortly. This time I'll go with something else.

(I use RainX as well).

22,000 miles since I got the new ones I picked up a new set yesterday. 22,000 miles isn't bad. And, the new ones were on sale, $14 total instead of $18-19. I win.

My favorite cheap blades are ServicePro's. They work really well and are fairly cheap. In the winter i use Anco winter/snow blades. They work awesome in the snow.
