View Full Version : Chrome E-Brake Button Idea
Leviathant

Okay so ever since seeing the Avante Nymph (http://www.automarket.pe.kr/product/avante/nymph.htm) I've wanted to get one of those little chrome buttons for my handbrake, but no one is selling them online, that I've found. I don't have tweeters on my GLS, but if I did, I'd also like those chrome tweeter surrounds. But really, why would Kspec or Dreamka4u put little items like this online for sale? They're specialty items that probably won't sell in quantities that justify the effort.
But what if we did a group buy, but similar to the clear door lense group buy (kind of!) in that rather than having the Korean company ship out a bunch of little items, they send the whole batch all at once, and then someone state-side (assuming the majority of buyers will be from the US) redistributes.
Personally I'd like to get the chrome ebrake button and chrome tweeter bits, if possible, as I plan on getting GT doors someday :p Anyone else think this is an idea worth building on? Does it make sense?
By the way, all of this is so unfair (http://www.automarket.pe.kr/product/avante/catalog/go.htm).

I'm interested...!

I don't know what the cost is yet, because no one's selling. But maybe if I can show significant interest, I can get an answer.
Right now, I'm only interested in the chrome tweeter grills & chrome brake button, but if there are other items that are popular, we can probably have those thrown in the shipment as well.

I asked David from kSpec about the chrome pieces (e-brake button and tweeter surrounds) when the pictures first came out and he said he didn't think they'd be available for purchase seperately. Meaning, you'd have to buy the whole door panel or e-brake assemly. That doesn't seem right to me.

if the whole e-brake assembly is isn't too expensive or big to ship... i'd still be interested....
also assuming both 01-03 and 04+ are the same of course...

I was afraid to check these at work, but I went to the Hyundai parts pages in the US, and it looks like according to this image (http://partscatalog.hyundaidealer.com/images/PartsGif/3x/E30580059701.gif), that may actually be pretty accurate. There is no part number for just the button on the regular Elantra, don't see why they'd have one for the Nymph. Damn.
On the other hand, you can order a Tweeter Grille (part #82775) individually. There may be hope for the chrome tweeter dome, yet!
Another interesting thing on that page, they have multigauges that have the same interior lights as the rest of the Elantra dash... even though a lot of people have changed out their instrument lights, I probably would have preferred to get these in green and not change out as much equipment :p
04Elantra
12-03-2004, 08:35 PM
Levianthant....the gauge faces on the multigauge have red transparent paint on the back of them...if you scrape it off (like both of IlanPro's gauge indiglo conversion posts in the DIY section) and painted it with transparent green (craft paint made for glass and plastic) paint, it looks like it will work...thats what I will likely do.
I might also be possible to just scrape off the red paint and replace the multigauge clear bulbs with wide angle green LEDs...I just dont know the bulb size!!!!!!!!!

Oh I don't care at this point, because my stereo came from a Tiburon and matches the gauges anwyay. It's just that now I'm going to have to change my speedometer's lights and stuff to match, hehe.
Worth noting: If you get "chrome" spray paint, put a few coats on a primered piece of plastic (about the size of, say, an ebrake button), and then coat it in clearcoat, it turns out about the same as the silverish bits on the mutligauge. Not really chrome, not really "just gray." Kinda crappy.

Even though there isn't a part number for it, I'm sure they could fix something up for us is we find a good deal of people who are willing to buy those.

I wonder if they could find those chrome dash instrument cluster rings as well... that'd be swanky.
Looks like I found em, they're about $18 (http://www.carace.co.kr/UsePage/carace/Goods/GoodsDetail.php?goo_id=2999). I seem to remember someone, perhaps ilan, who'd posted that link before. I think they're manufactured by a company called "Goods," maybe, because that word comes up on several different websites that have those things. Babelfish tells me the manufacturer is "This Doctor." 이박사
However, only carace.co.kr seems to have any currently. Being that I can't read Korean, however, I don't know what the rest of that page says. Oh well. I know I wouldn't mind trying a set out. Might be gaudy though, hard to tell from those pics.
Further research shows the company to be called LeeBakSa (http://leebaksa.co.kr/), who have far too great an affinity for chrome. In addition, they have a store, which has these orange headlight things (http://www.lbsmall.com/sub.htm?pagename=pview.htm&ID=198&ONEID=327&TWOID=0&THREEID=0), which are also about twenty bucks, and do something to your luminosity levels when you're driving in the rain. Or something.

Oh yes, that would be hot too! Change of name: ''4-part chrome deal ;)''.
No matter how much you like these small chrome pieces, I love em that much too! Keep em coming, so we could get it totally together :D
Leviathant
12-05-2004, 12:48 AM
Okay, I found this page (http://www.lbsmall.com/sub.htm?pagename=pview.htm&ID=254&ONEID=324&TWOID=0&THREEID=0) on the LBS mall, which appears to have a number of chrome rings that have probably been discontinued, including rings for our Elantras.
Now, I'm not entirely sure, I still can't read Korean, but it looks like they're offering the chrome rings plus Venture gauge faces for 14,800 Won, which XE.com tells me is $14.
Possibly bad news: The image with all the combinations has the URL lbsmall.com/data/200411/chromering_body3.jpg ... which may mean that it's a November 2004 thing. Might not, but work with me here. heh.
Several DIY images on this site crack me up, in that they often break things with a hammer as part of the process (http://www.lbsmo.com/diy/diy_nuderedcab1.jpg).

Yeah, I figure it would be good to drum up enough interest to make it worth Kpsec/Dreamka/whoever's while to help us out. If it's just one guy getting this stuff, why bother? But if a few people are willing to buy these things, it might be a little more interesting to whoever it is in Korea that's willing to help.

Also I'd like to see the the chrome button for the Automatic shifter.
Oh, and the chrome gauge rings are not OEM parts, but I still hope they can get them.

I don't care if they're not OEM... if they buy them from the other company and resell them for a little more money, I'll be glad to pay them for their service.
I will fork out cash for...
1. A set of chrome tweeter grills
2. LBS Instrument Cluster Chrome Rings
3. That damnable chrome ebrake button
4. Chrome indoor handles (which are already available, but since we're on the topic)
Woo! I hope this forward motion continues :)

Have you guys ever looked at any other Hyundais? My Santa Fe has the same style shifter as the Elantra, with a chrome button. Same with the Ebrake handle.
I ordered a button for the SF to put in my elantra, but they sent me the plastic one instead of the chrome one. I didn't feel like going through the return process for a $2 part. It appears to be the exact same assembly though. Just thought I'd mention that incase you guys can't find them overseas.
I'll be interested in some parts if you get a generic pricing quote.
I'd probably pay a good penny for those chorme tweeter surrounds though...

Question though: is it actually possible to disassemble the e-brake in order to make the button fit? Because maybe thats why they don't have the part number, because it's not possible to open it up....?

Stopped by my dealer after work... maybe the old Sante Fe had the same handbrake assembly, but the current ones are different, the button is round. I talked to the parts guy (who priced me a leather-wrapped shift knob at $95, isn't that great!) and he said he couldn't order that part separately, but mentioned that they'd replaced them a couple of times on some cars in the shop... so they must do something to get spares.
hyunelan2
12-08-2004, 10:29 PM
That shift knob button is the one I was talking about, I dunno about the handbrake button, sorry if I was misleading. And if he tells you that the shifter button can't be ordered seperate, punch him - because I have one that I ordered seperate sitting in my garage... I just got the plastic button instead of the chrome one (probably my fault). If a dealer becomes too much of a pita about ordering a part, you could always order online from hyundaiusa, that's generally what I do.

Besides, that's listed as "Aftermarket Tuscani E-Brake Add-On Rings" ... they are just add-on rings, not the whole thing. I'm kind of going for an OEM look anyway. I wonder if one can swap out an entire ebrake assembly with another Hyundai... but that's probably going overboard.

can heated seats be put on cloth seats?
Yes. Usually they only use them on leather because they are a "luxury" type thing that goes well with leather seats. With all seat heaters though, I wouldn't keep them on for very long (meaning over an hour), most get to temps of 95-105 F, so if you leave them on a long time you could burn the fabric (cloth or leather). I know that's a common problem with the VW ones.

Well, with that center consol, i think that the temp is adjustable...
